Watched it on closed circuit at Charlestown Raceway in Charlestown, WVA on a huge outdoor screen. Wanted Hagler to win but felt Ray outboxed him. It was a school night and my mom let me stay home the next day.
I always felt Hagler ran out of rounds in this one. Now the second Hearns fight, no way Leonard deserved the draw.
@andrewe Ray landed to no effect it was all show, Hagler was outboxed in a quite a few rounds Rays comeback story and media attention was all too good to let the “bad guy” Hagler win a disputed decision the masses prefer the media darling to win and a good to great case can be made for Sugar. Hagler landed more thudding effective clean shots, at times outboxed and outfoxed Ray and handled him physically easily and was unaffected by all his best shots! a good to great case can also be made for Marvellous a matter of preference in matters like this. One thing is certain no one can make an absolute case on fights such as this due to the nature of judging be your own judge and enjoy the fights as they are ignore the bitter disputes! Enjoy the magic of Sugar Ray Leonard’s comeback victory or you’re free to see Hagler as the man who conquered the FAB4 and thwarted Ray in his last fight and was robbed heart broken he retired to Italy with nothing to prove as the best middleweight of all time.
Leonard was brilliant to box like that after years out of the ring. Hagler underperformed. But Hagler deserved the "W". Leonard simply didn't do enough real work.
