I wont be bothered to watch that fight again. At the time I remember Holyfield winning enough rounds for me to warrant getting the decision, in spite of Ruiz's late rally. I think comparing this match to the Toney fight is a bit ridiculous, that fight was a sustained one-sided massacre. About as one-sided as Toney's victory over Ruiz himself. Holyfield was able to outbox Ruiz for long stretches of their fight. It was competitive.

Ruiz was terrible, one of the biggest cheaters in the history of boxing. His resume is a total fraud. Any wins he got over decent fighters were the result of blatant cheating.

    Ruiz has 9 losses.

He's best known for going 1-1-1 with an ageing Holyfield. Getting a gift versus Golota & beating Rahman who had just lost 3 in a row (& again was out of shape) if u count the Tua gift draw..

Obviously when u apply full context it's Vitali, he went on something like a 13 fight win streak in the second half of his career, & took numerous 0s etc.. all clear wins too..

If people are using the logic of just citing names* then Corrie Sanders & Danny Williams have better resumes than Vitali cos they beat two ATGs.

It's Vitali ffs.. ruiz was called HUGGY Ruiz for a reason.. Vitali was a skilled fighter

Clown? Don't start name calling what for because you are John Ruiz fan?

You got my point that it still meters how you perform in your resumé fight.

If you have as bad tunell vision it would not help in real life.

Just pretend that you are a manager and you need to sign Vitali or Ruiz who would you sign based on accomplishments?

Ruiz has one big name and that is holyfield thats it.

Also if we dumb down so low that you need to beat name/legend to become one than we can play that game too.

Toney beat Holyfield lost to Peter- peter becomes legend- vitaly destroys him.

Same thing about Rahman was beaten by maskaev who was ktfo by Peter so Peter was uber legend when vitaly beat him..

Shannon Briggs are you kiding me Huge name- defeated George Foreman from golden age of boxing, lineal an 2 time world champion.

    I can go on...

In the end who is in boxing hall of fame?

Ruiz has the better resume in terms of who he fought, that’s my argument.

Boy. I never liked Ruiz. He got way too many opportunities based on nothing.
Also, he in my mind held a belt that should have been Tua's.
And all the hugging etc. The only guy who got more undeserved shots than
Ruiz was Frez but at least he didn't get a title. And when Tua beat Frez he shoulda
    got a shot at Ruiz.

I'll also add Vitali came back after 4 years & sparked WBC champ Peter who had just pumelled Maskaev & UD'd a juiced up Toney.. looked who they'd just beat!

That whole scenario is better than ANYTHING Ruiz did.

Then add Lennox Lewis to Vitalis resumé

    Ok believe what you want.

    We have different criteria

The thread didn’t specify better resume in terms of wins

To me, a resume is who you fought

If we are talking record, Vitali obviously

Resume and record are 2 different things

Tua was the only guy to brutally KO him. Haye stopped him with accumulation, and rabbit punches.

Exactly. Ruiz is the poster- boy for boxing corruption. Undeserved title shot after undeserved title shot, gift decisions, free passes for his illegal holding tactics - all courtesy of his connections to Don King. Without King, Ruiz is just another high-grade clubfighter who got starched by David Tua.
