Now let's say that Jeffries really was this head to head monster, bigger than most people before the steroid era, as lithe and quick as a Tommy Ryan, who had now become as clever as Jim Corbett?

Wouldn't that translate into him being pretty good head to head?

Pretty good head to head against a big middleweight who was 37 & 39,pretty good against a big light heavy who was coming out of retirement and hadn't won a fight for years ,pretty good against a 5foot 8inch 185lbs face first brawler.Against a 6foot 5 inch 245lbs monster who could both both and punch? He gets executed inside 5 rds less if Lewis is in Grant/Ruddock mode.

 

Whom did they have to compare him to? Three previous champions.Jeffires was a big man in a very small pool of fighters feasting on older,smaller men,in modern times he would be that little guy,game as a pebble but entirely out of his depth with the giants of today as regards both size and skills.Trading on durability is permissible when you're fighting men 40/50lbs lighter,when you're conceding 30lbs,facing men in their prime its not such a smart tactical move.
