Eubank and Calzaghe are both overrated.

There's some truth in there but also a load of uninformed drivel.
Don't underestimate the Benn and Watson wins, he stopped them both.
The Collins, Calzaghe and Thompson losses were when he was on the slide and remember Thompson was a hard punching Cruiserweight.
He wasn't particularly bothered about fighting the Americans that's true and he did milk the WBO title.
His trouble within the ring though is that he was very conservative with his output, if he'd been busier and upped his work rate he could have beaten anyone, because the tools and skills were all there including the punch and granite chin.
He was enigmatic and just wouldn't listen to anyone but himself.

Eubank had ridiculous ability. He was just lazy. He'd walk in instead of inch in, or go walkies instead of work.

I don't buy that excuse sorry.

Both Hamed and Hatton fought in the US.

Hatton left Warren after the Kosta Tszyu fight. He had a three fight deal with HBO and then joined Golden Boy.

Hamed had two fights under Warren in the states, Kelly and Mcullogh.

Fighters go into boxing to make money, they all dream of the big money fights in America.

Calzaghe for some strange reason kept away from this, if Warren was holding him back, he had ample opportunity to go elsewhere.

Now what kind of man prefers to stay at home avoiding the multi million dollar paydays?

They are under contract or (in the case of Chris Eubank Snr) know their limitations. Warren is content at holding WBO belts hostage for entire careers (mainly to milk the big UK pay days were he has control of everything) I have heard a lot of here'say from Frank over the years about big plans and big fights but very little end result. He always take the low risk high reward.

It takes time for fighters to realise (in the case of Calzaghe, Hatton and Hamed) that to get the mega paydays they will have to go it alone.

Bump :).Sr was a top fighter on his day no doubt, but I agree with a lot of the points made here. He fought mostly bums, and had quite a few gifts. Not as good as people make out.

Chris eubanks was brilliant in his day...should be no doubt about it. I still say the skill level was worlds spart from todays standard. In that they we,re more accomplished fighters back then. Could do it all.

Not just that the divisions we,re stacked with genuine talent. Even guys in the top 15/20 we,re good fighters. And the top americans we,re way above guys we see today.

Think in terms of sports science and probsbly tactics the sports came on leaps and bounds but in terms of skill. The level has declined loads. Different eras....different discussion really. But anyone that thinks eubank wasn,t great....is fooling themselves.

Eubank got a lot stick from the press and pundits not only for his personality but due to his style as a fighter as well. Eubank was similar to Degale in that he would only work/ put punches together for short bursts of periods of each round and was happy to back away and let his opponent be on the offensive and take the fight to him. This lead to a lot rounds in Eubank fights where Eubank's flashes of class were outshone by his opponents workrate and questions if Eubank did enough to win certain rounds.

Eubank had many controversial close fights that divided fans and judges opinions. Out of these fights I scored the following:

    I had Eubank winning:

    Vs Watson 1 115-113

    Vs Mallinga 115-112

    V Close 1 & 2 - I had Eubank winning both in close fights.

    I had Eubank losing:

Vs Benn 2 - I had Benn just nicking it 113-114.

Vs Schommer - I had 1113-117 Schommer win, who countered Eubank all fight perfectly. Schommer was robbed.

Vs Collins 1 - I had Collins winning 114-112 in a intense good fight.

Vs Collins 2 - I had Collins winning 117-112. The difference between the two fights was that this fight wasnt any where near as good as the first fight and neither fighter was anywhere as good. This was a scrappy and sloppy fight with both looking exhausted half way into the fight. Collins was charging in with his chin in the air, missing loads of punches but totally out working Eubank who was doing little to nothing for most of the fight in what was probably his career worst peformance.

Obviously Cazlaghe totally out classed Eubank.

    I had Eubank drawing:

Vs Rocchigiani - 114-114 in a fight with a lot of tough scoring rounds to judge.

    Eubank 4 best wins was:

Wharton - Eubank gave him a boxing lesson, jabbing his head off all night. Wharton gave Benn a very close fight not too long before this fight.

Beating Watson in their first fight on points in a close excellent fight.

The best wins of the lot though were the stoppage wins in vs Watson 2 ( Eubank was losing on points at the time) and Benn 1.

Eubank proved in these 4 fights that at his best he was an elite fighter. Eubank was an intelligent counter puncher, with an excellent stiff jab and a ganite chinn. However given Eubanks style, opponents could out work him causing him more issues than they should have.
