Duran was amazing at that weight at that time in his career. I don't think anyone was beating him then. He was dominant. He had speed, power, pressure, slick defense.
With that said Chavez pretty friggin awesome too. He had subtle skills maybe not as flashy as Duran's but equally effective. Heavy hands, precise inside fighting. Left hook downstairs.
    This is a tough fight.
Duran by decision in a tough fight

Duran has the strength and foot speed advantage. Chavez has the chin and hand speed advantage.

I would favor Chavez by the slightest of margins. I think if they fough 10 times. 9 times its a draw and Chavez wins once

One hell of a fight. It would be a great fight for the fans and an even better fight for the next generation of trainers to study

Chavez faster hands?, I disagree. Duran would beat the crap out of Chavez. I was never impressed with him at all, though maybe I'm just missing something as everyone else seems to think he was so great. But I can't ever see him hanging with duran

In any case, Duran by commanding decision. Just plain and simple a better fighter than JCC.

    This I can't agree with.

Prime Chavez was indeed awesome, and if you can't see that, I dunno what you're watching.

This matchup is no slight on Chavez. It's just that 70s Duran was THAT damn good.

Still one of my dream matchups as they are two of my fav fighters from around the weight.

Duran would have to be on his game, couldn't phone this one in.

Duran has every advantage here except possibly chin but that wouldn't be a factor in this one.

At 135 lbs, the last person to deck him was Esteban De Jesus on March 11 1974, in a title fight, Duran retained his WBA World Lightweight Title with a TKO 11.

That can be deceiving. Sometimes a guy may not be as spectacular a performer but just as effective. Chavez was 93-0 at one point with titles at 3 weight classes. He won about 30 straight Championship fights. At times opponents quit on their stools as opposed to Duran maybe drilling them into the canvas.
I don't disagree with you that Duran has a little more and probably wins this one.

Someones gotta be the best and Duran at his 135 best was perhaps unbeatable imo.
