2020 inductees Bernard Hopkins, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley and Wladimir Klitschko will be enshrined in 2021 due to the pandemic. These will four will be inducted in the same ceremony as the 2021 batch. Each voting member will have to select 5 names from the nominees. The top 3 will automatically be inducted plus any other boxer that will receive 80% of the votes. Assuming they stay retired, Mayweather and Andre Ward will headline the class. How about the 3rd spot and if the 4th placer and 5th placer will receive 80% of the votes. So each voter will get to vote for 5 names. With Mayweather and Ward the sure inductees, that leaves 3 more boxers to be voted. Here are some of the nominees Timothy Bradley Miguel Cotto Carl Froch Ricky Hatton Rafael Marquez Sergio Martinez James Toney Israel Vazquez
Wlad is not in yet, but will be eligible for the first time next time they vote. So shoo-ins for the class of 2021 should be: Mayweather Klitschko Ward Assuming they are among the nominees Toney and Cotto would probably be the top candidates for those 80%.
Second year in a row where guys that would be first ballot before, are not going to make it. Floydweather, Toney and either Maravilla or Cotto. Then Toney wouldn't be in there either, as well as many others from the past.
Sergio has gotta get in! Guy was fantastic. Much better than Cotto. Take away the 1st Willams fight which Serge won and the joke of cotto beating a 1 legged man and He would have only 1 legit loss to Margarito.. ( and if you believe the loaded wraps theory, then that could be taken off) and you got a guy with over 50 wins, with a terrific , world class style -- power , speed, movement
Well, Sergio was on the list last time, and wasn't voted in - so he's unlikely to be for the 2021 class, with new nominees including: Mayweather Klitschko Ward/Toney/Cotto (depending on how many they will add to the list of nominees) He was a good fighter, so maybe down the road, if there's a year with few really outstanding candidates - but probably not next time.
Part of that is probably due to the reason he also had a loss and a draw on his resume he didn't deserve... the "wrong" nationality. But you do have a point. Floyd, Toney and Cotto it is then.
