God did this guy have skills. Out slugged tua and knocked out the Chris Byrd, 2 things Lennox couldn't claim to have done. Is there anyway we can see this guy inside a boxing ring? I mean the Canadian boxing scene is wide open. If Hopkins can fight until his midfifties, there's no reason that a 45 year old heavyweight boxer can compete in the cfl, not NFL of boxing. Does anybody know his whereabouts? Is he still doing a bid? I know he had mental illness but being the Canadian champ would mend all the what ofs, should ofs. With all seriousness, in my province we have a society for schizophrenia, we have fully rehabbed a greyhound bus killer ( sorry but facts) , also many Canadians have made **** loads of cash: Donny lalonde, Kirk Johnson, Lennox Lewis, razor rudduck, etc. My thing is this, we have so much money invested in mental illness in this country that why can't a guy like Ike get out and be rehabbed to fight again? Guys like gatti, molitor have reached the heights of world boxing, but just seeing this guy fight again would be endearing. Is it possible??? Where is he now? How many years does he have left? God what a waste of a physical specimen, your thoughts/ knowledge?
He is now 47, and I think about to get another shot at release. I seem to remember that he is still interested in pursuing boxing. Personally I think it is a terrible idea. Even it had come off five years ago when he was last freed-and re-arrested-I would have said let's see it. But he is too old and it will be no good for his health.
I would argue that Lewis win was a lot more comprehensive. Tua came on very strong against Ike the last 4 rounds, and it was a lot closer than Lennox win. Byrd was a good win.
Tua was a B level boxer though. Obviously had some exciting moments, but was never going to be one of the best. Although Ike ended up catching Byrd and stopping him, I think that Byrd also exposed some of Ike's limitations. Ike, through his life outside of the ring also proved his other limitations. He's mentally weak and not a disciplined person. The world is full of people who have a ton of potential but aren't mentally built for sustained success. Ike is one of them.
Ike vs. Tua was power at its highest level So many really hard punches thrown and landed from both men....... reminded me of Tyson vs Ruddock
Byrd complaining to the ref that he slipped after eating that huge uppercut, all the while drooling and staring vacantly all glassy eyed. Byrd was slippery but hand it to Ike he just threw until he drowned byrd Tua fight was excellent, what a chin Tua proved to have throughout his career
The Ibeabuchi fight was the end of Tua's career, he was never the same after that. That fight really zapped Tua's fighting spirit out of him, it was just that brutal, you could see he never even tried to press Lewis, was just content to let the rounds go by, as was Lewis.
