Can he ? . we know ortiz is old and is only getting older . we've seen ruiz lose to AJ and Parker by being outboxed by the taller man . ruiz holds the advantages on the inside with his blazing combos and handspeed . ortiz holds the advantage on the outside with his jab footwork and counters . ortiz being the taller man more reach can use that to his advantage on the outside and outbox ruiz for the rounds to come. I dont think ortiz should risks trying to knockout the younger fresher and stronger man. I can see ruiz stopping ortiz however i cant see ortiz stopping ruiz at all. What do you all think ? Ortiz has a chance by outboxing ruiz and avoiding an inside fight thats assuming ortiz legs dont give out due to age ?parker and joshua outboxed ruiz . can ortiz do the same ? Or would ruiz stop ortiz .
This would be a good fight. I'd pick a motivated Ruiz to win at this point because Ortiz doesn't have good stamina and he's ancient. Ruiz on the other hand has a pretty good defense and punch resistance, so I don't believe Ortiz would be able to knock him out or even hurt him, so the fight would definitely continue into late rounds.
I'm of the opinion that grandpa Ortiz could outbox Parker, Whyte and Ruiz. Deontay was just a step too far.
Ortiz is done at the top level. His legs are all used up. Going into the Wilder rematch when I seen Ortiz trying to move around his balance was shot, which is why I didn’t even bother watching the rematch. Big Andy would easily crush Ortiz now. Parker would most likely go the distance with Ortiz, since I can see him letting Ortiz go the distance out of pity.
We never got to see Ortiz against ANYONE worth a damn other than Wilder. That win's worth for Wilder remains a mystery until we see Ortiz against a decent challenge other than merely above average Jennings. Now that Ortiz is 50, that's not likely to happen.
Ruiz can be a bit lethargic at times. So of he doesn't show up at his best Ortiz can definitely cruise to a decision like he was against Wilder. Ruiz also doesn't punch as hard as Wilder nor does he posses the range. It's a toss up at this point. Wouldn't confidently pick either.
The oldest ever title challenger (by several years) v the most obese ex champion (by several pounds). Interesting one. I think Ruiz has the skills and stamina to win a clear UD although grandpa will have his moments.
Would of probably been a different story if Ortiz was 6 years younger. Even pushing 40 almost stopped him in there first fight. As for Parker Whyte and even Ruiz would be good fights but Wilder wouldn't want his legacy damaged any more than it is already.. How long has he ducked Whyte now just be 4 years says it all
As for Ruiz Ortiz probably depends who's gasses out first. And that's a hard call ones old ones 90% blob but with fast hands in his range
