Tua is no Tyson he’ll be outboxed here but there’s always the possibility that he can tag Spinks at some point. Somehow I don’t think it happens though. I’d take Spinks by a UD.
Agreed. Like I posted earlier. Gerry Cooney was an 8-5 favorite over Spinks when they fought. Spinks was a one legged fighter at that point and he toyed with Cooney. Foreman fought Cooney a few years later and said that Cooney hit him as hard as anyone he ever fought. If Spinks can go 30 rounds over two fights with Holmes he can certainly go the distance with a limited fighter like Tua. Like I pointed out, the few times Tua faced an elite boxer, he was neutralized. That is why his handlers mostly put him in with bangers.
If I had to bet money it would be on Tua. Spinks is the better all around fighter, but he wasn't the lethal puncher at heavyweight, like at light heavy. Even a drunken drugged Cooney, Spinks had to hit him with about a hundred punches to stop him. I just don't see him being able to keep Tua off him at all.
Huh? Spinks, I mean. I remember he had this weird 100% KO ratio at light heavyweight where he was cutting a bunch of weight and then he grabbed the dubyubogus title and everyone made this big deal about him but it was all hype and then when he stepped up and foughted old guys and stuff he got KO'd. Then he retired super young after that Tyson thing and I don't know. Cool mustache but never turned out as all that-as a boxer. No hate. Tua I seen knock out like four heavyweight champs even if he never got em when they got the belt.
1. Spinks never had a 100% Ko ratio. 2. You do realize that he is commonly viewed as a top 5 ATG light heavy and probably a top 30 ATG p4p ? 3. The “ old guys “ you say he beat at heavyweight including the reigning linear heavyweight champion. 4. He was 32 years old when he announced his retirement, which back in those days wasn’t exactly considered “ super young.” 5. While it’s fine to favor David Tua to beat him, I don’t think it should be under the premise that Michael Spinks “ wasn’t all that as a boxer. “
1. Yeah, 100%. When he was with Manual Stewart. 2. Linear whatever. Tyson Fury is like the linear whatever. Why pay attention to it? It's geek stuff. Like global warming. Keeping track of degrees across the whole world, makes no sense. They just degrees. 3. For a heavyweight, that's crazy young. Even guys that peaked way early like Bat Pasterson foughted like 20 damn years and was fine. 4. Listen, the dude never did much decisively like Tua did, koing for champions. I'm just sayin those are the facts, Magee. Whoa, what? Are you sure you replying to the right person?
Dude, you got two three-letter words censored out of your reply in the same sentence. Don't lose your cool. It's only a forum. Chillax. Peace.
I agree with what you’re saying in principal and it’s reasonable to favor Spinks. But a lot of people forget that Michael was often a slow starter which isn’t a good thing against a guy who stopped about 30 of his opponents inside of 3 rounds or less. And while he was certainly smart and crafty he wasn’t terribly difficult to hit. A 36 year old Holmes was battering him from pillar to post in their rematch. Gerry Cooney who had seen only one fight in three years and was horribly out of shape had him rocked... and then of course there was Tyson who beat him in a little over a minute... Not saying David Tua should be favored. Only that it’s a dangerous fight and certainly not as simple as dancing circles around him as you say Spinks would do.
