How much will boxing help me in a street fight?

I'm quite new to boxing, been training for a couple of weeks.

I came across this video of a guy who has obviously boxed before. He absolutely dominates his opponent in a street fight. Here's the video:

I was wondering how long I would have to train for to be as good as the kid in the video.

And also, how often will street fights go in that direction, provided one party has trained before?

What's so good about him? It seems his opponent couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag to begin with.

Asking how long it will take you to get that good is like asking how long it will take to squat "x" amount of weight. The answer is it depends. I'd say it wouldn't take that long for anyone to get that good with time, patience, and consistency.

Why do you think that it is obvious that he has boxed? He squares up, gets his feet on a line. He swings his arms as opposed to throwing punches. My guess is that he watches combat sports and teaches himself and that gave him an edge over the other guy, who can't fight even a little bit.

If that’s who you want to be, find a new role model.

If you want to box, go to a gym and learn how to box. If you want to street fight, go pick some fights on the street.

Boxers usually don’t have to prove they’re tough outside of the ring. If you’re good enough, people will know. If you’re not good, you don’t want them to know.

A good general rule of thumb is. Unless there is a significant difference in size/athleticism. Someone with around 6 months of boxing training(this usually is the amount of time it takes to get your feet wet with sparring) will beat an untrained "street fighter".

Or they go get a gun because you ‘disrespected them.’

I remember a guy who boxed amateur for me telling me about telling his dad how he almost got into a fight at the bar and decided to walk away, but how he would have probably destroyed the guy.

His father: “And when you walked out of the bar he’d be there with all his friends and they’d have ganged up on you and beat you to a pulp.”

My boxer: “How do you know that?”

His father: “Because that’s the way we used to do it.”

Some things don’t change. Street fighting is not going to go well for you most of the time, win or lose.
