There is a documentary about the Schulz and Foreman fight on the occasion of it's 25th anniversary. The docu aired last week in German television. The broadcast of the fight had a market share of almost 90% in Germany back in 1995. Many thought it was a blatant robbery. Btw, a very, very cool docu. The former promoter Jean Marcel Nartz openly admitted that Axel's spot in the rankings was bought. He went to his bank, drew 100000 Dollars and paid it to the IBF to secure Axels spot. Schulz later also admitted it, laughing, and said that it was a part of the boxing business. He said that it still belongs to boxing and to it's shady reputation. I watched it live and yes. it was one of the most blatant robbery's ive seen. And if you look at Big Georges face, he wore his big dark sunglasses to hide his black eyes and his big cheesy smile as he was having his hand raised told the world that the judges had got this one terribly wrong. It was the look on his face that told me that George knew they had raised the wrong guys hand. At least George wasnt even acting like he had won a fair decision.
I watched it on HBO and I remember that it was a robbery, though, to be honest, I don't remember a single punch of the fight.
It was. Been so long, but I remember me and the guys being shocked at the outcome. Total 'WTF' moment.
Foreman said in the post fight Interview, with Larry Merchant, that he wasn't surprised by the outcome and thought he had won fair and square. He said that Schulz took a lot of punishment and that he was surprised, Schulz was able to take all the punishment he was dishing out without getting knocked out. George also said that Schulz ran all night and that you are not winning championships by running.
george did knock down schultz three times in the first round. that put him up. but yeah, alex should have got the nod. how ever, george was on the other end when he fought briggs. when it ended, briggs hung his head and slumped his way back to his corner, sat down and contiued to hang his head. he KNEW he lost. when it was announced he won, he had a VERY surprised expression on his face. heck, when they handed him the belt, his name was ALREADY on it! do they have engravers ringside?
Shultz deserved to win, but it was fairly close, something like 115-113 or possibly 116-112. This content is protected
