I am leaning towards Robinson by decision but it is by no means a given. The thing with Roy is that he peaked at 168 and not 160. Hs best opponent was BHop and Roy looked kind of ordinary in that fight. That is what I am basing my opinion on. At 168 Roy beats Robinson in my opinion

    In response the Johnny B:

    Speed:

Leonard at 147, whew...his hands were pretty fast. Taylor at 140. Tyson at heavyweight...Hearns at 154. Just off the top of my head, they were faster than Roy P4P. Honestly, even if Roy is the faster fighter ever, were was it at again Tarver and Johnson. He got smoked in 2 in one fight and beat like a child in the other. The truth is that when faced with a serious challenge Roy can be pretty conservative about his punch output. Sometimes throwing like 12 punches a round.

    Robinsons chin:

Robinson had been put on the canvas enough times in his prime to say that he did not have the greatest chin. It was good but not granite. The difference between him and Roy was that when Roy was down, they had to just about bring in a stretcher to peel his body of the ground. Robinson simply got back up and continued the beating on his opponent.

    Roy vs Hopkins greatness:

Hopkins was the Middleweight Champion for about 10 years with 20 title defense. Stopped Trinidad, De La Hoya. Beat Roy himself for the fun of it. Beat the crap out of Tarver at 175 (, just for the fun of it) Johnson was just another person that Hopkins beat. Won the 175 title waaaay after his prime and continued to complete at a high level up until his 50s. He is greater than Roy. Not as exciting but better.

Roy outpointed Hopkins in the lamest fight ever, where he rarely threw or landed on Hopkins. If Hopkins has more confidence in himself in that fight he would have beaten Roy.

BTW, Montell counts because he was all over Roy in that first fight and at times banging Roy around against the ropes like Johnson and also countering Roy in the middle of the ring. I give Roy credit for overcoming it with a knockdown before the the DQ, but still, it’s Montell, not “Sugaman”

    Roy’s P4P greatness.

“Roy was undefeated for 10 years”:

    - Joe Louis was a champion for more than a decade. KOed almost all of his 25 title defenses.

    - Willie Pep won something like 90 fights in a row.

    - Archie Moore KOed over 140 men.

    - Henry Armstrong owned almost half of the world titles in boxing in one year, meanwhile defending his welterweight title 20 times and KOing 100 men.

These 4 men I just mentioned aren’t in the same conversation as a Robinson. They are at the table but not ever mentioned as the GOAT...ever.

    Roy Jones did what now?

Either Roy by decision or Ray by KO. Coin Flip IMO.

It's hard to say exactly who was faster, cause nobody measured them. But even if he's not the fastest, Roy is still one of the fastest of all time and from the standpoint of this thread, has an edge over the Sugaman in terms of speed.

Hey, we are talking about a prime RJJ here. Anything after the Ruiz fight don't count.

Nobody said that the Sugaman had the best chin, all I said was that it was better than RJJ's chin, thus the Sugaman has the edge in this department.

BHop is neither greater, nor better than RJJ. Like I said, all RJJ's loses after the Ruiz fight don't count cause he was past his prime.

Nobody claimed RJJ is greater than these men, I just said he's greater than BHop.
And I also consider the Sugaman as the greatest boxer of all time.

I think Robinson late, because even if Roy has the speed advantage, in a go for broke scenario, he would definitely finish 2nd to the sugarman.

Jones whenever he likes, including round one. A skinny super-lightweight vs a lean, powerful light-heavy.

    Ludicrous to think otherwise.

Robinson didn't believe that he could lose. He wouldn't let Jones pose and posture and pick his times to choose to fight. Robinson would push him, make him exchange and fight on the terms Robinson dictated.
Jones isn't going to win a fight like that. I said for years, back to the early 90s, that Jones was soft in the middle and didn't have the heart for a fight. Robinson would find that soft spot.

Im not too sure. Maybe SRR by KO or RJJ by decision. I think the latter is more likely

If it’s fought in the modern day, with better nutrition more advanced training to assist in bulking up, Robinson would be very competitive.

If a gun was pointed at my head I would pick Robinson on points, proven in all categories, skilled, determined, speed and power combined, for his time he was a trailblazer. Massive fan of both though.

    Good topic.

Probably a dull fight. Roy is gonna move alot. Ray would be able to stay with him better than most at his Middleweight best.

Robinson's activity may carry the day though Jones could hit hard i don't think he would take as many chances.

A decision fight with the loser believing he won.
