I am not sure if Joshua has better defense than Witherspoon. Witherspoon had a highly effective crab like defense.

And Joshua does have a better left than Tim but not a better right.

Terrible Tim Witherspoon may not have size on Anthony Joshua but he did have a good overhand right hand that could stop Anthony. Tim used that right hand to take out Frank Bruno on July 19 1986 in London. Bruno a tall strong heavyweight could not withstand the onslaught. If Andy Ruiz could kayo Anthony, I think Witherspoon accomplishes this as well, TKO 9.

That’s a bold claim saying Joshua is better than Witherspoon in every department when Witherspoon fought and beat better competition than Joshua. Also, Ruiz wouldn’t crush Bruno like he did Joshua. Bruno had at least a little head movement while Joshua has none and unlike Joshua he didn’t always stand square.

Ruiz wouldn’t have been landing those wide hooks on Bruno, since Bruno would’ve known better than to hook with a shorter guy. Bruno would’ve made Ruiz come to him by using his jab. Bruno was also more durable than Joshua. Ruiz is dangerous if you stand and exchange with him, but if you move and make him follow you he’s harmless.

Joshua based off what he’s shown hasn’t proven that he’s better than Bruno or Witherspoon yet.

Look how square Joshua is and his head never moves an inch. He made it almost too easy for Ruiz to land. Joshua has a lot of potential, but his handlers really need to do something about his lack of head movement or he’ll get knocked out again.

While Bruno didn’t have great head movement he at least has some, so he made Witherspoon work to land those shots that eventually took him out.

Smith lost to Marvis Frazier, Ruiz lost to Joe Parker and Joshua.

Bruno stays on the center line after punching AJ didn`t do that in his rematch v Ruiz and has much better movement tyhan Bruno did anyway. Bruno missed far more punches than AJ does. AJ skips back frompunches well but Bruno hardly moves.

Smith knocked out Mike Weaver and fought Holmes and beat Witherspoon. A much deeper resume.. Maybe Ruiz will have a deep resume eventually, but Smith was always in shape.

    I like joshua big.

It'd be all Witherspoon could do to make it the distance and I doubt he does...ref waves it off as soon as Spoon starts looking for his second wind.

100% spoon could beat Aj in a mediocre night but both guys 100% i think that Aj would stop him eventually, but always in a war. Witherspoon would not be easy prey

It’s certainly plausible. Anthony is a big man with a very big punch. I would favor Tim at his best but nothing is certain in a match like this

To be fair Marvis was a very good fighter, but Holmes and Tyson were very bad style matchups for him, since Marvis was used to having faster hands than his opponents, but that just wasn’t the case with Holmes and Tyson.

If you didn’t have good hand speed and timing or the ability to trap him Marvis was an easy guy to drop a decision to much like Byrd.

I think it would be like bruno-spoon for the 1st 7 rounds ....ie a hard paced even contest...than when AJ is frozen by an overhand right in the 8th it becomes like the jorge luiz gonzalez fight and tim chops him down in the 11th

I think the biggest issue with Marvis was that he was thrown to the wolves too soon. That and his father pressured him into utilizing a style that simply didn’t work for him. His chin was also highly suspect. I wonder how Marvis might have faired at cruiserweight if he could slim down to that division.
