Ruiz has never been able to close distance well. He couldn't do it against Parker and he was in about as decent shape as you can expect in that one. Joshua won because he made smart tactical changes, not because Ruiz came in too heavy.
Disagree. Ruiz was constantly getting past AJs jab in the first fight which he couldn't do in the second fight. Coming in 30+ lbs heavier had a big effect on him. As far as Parker fight you are right and Ruiz learned from that fight.
I've always found this a strange stance considering Joshua got a second fight after Joshua got knocked silly in the first.
AJ stayed behind that jab-straight most of the night and when a Ruiz was about to unload in the exchanges AJ clinched. I think AJ respected Ruiz’s power much more than he did in the first fight.
Quick question, how does 75 year old Ortizn't get past Parkers better chin, punch output and better engine to enable him to beat Parker? Oh and let's not forget, Parkers faster hands, faster feet and generally better movement.
Ever seen a cat take a bath? Looks about half the size once the fur goes down. Everyone should go watch Canelo shaking hands with Ruiz. Ruiz looks like he could shed his obesity and share the ring with Canelo at SMW/LHW. He looks about Chavez Jr size, naturally. It all makes when you realise Ruiz is fighting out of his natural weight class. That's why his hands are fast, because he's small. That's why his reflexes are quite fast, because he's small. His HW power isn't great because he's small. To his credit, he must have a very good chin and that's what has allowed him to fight at higher weights. Plus he's really only fought a couple of game opponents, Joshua and Parker. I'm sure plenty of other true HWs will beat him though. Hence, Joshua was fighting a guy that likely shouldn't even be at cruiser, let alone HW. Joshua was TKO'd the first time, then seen running from a guy that shouldn't even be at cruiser. Joshua disgraced himself and ZERO credit should be given.
He got past Joshua's jab because Joshua was badly hurt and couldn't defend or gauge distance correctly. Ruiz has never been able to close fighters down that opt to keep things on the outside. It was why I predicted Joshua to outpoint him wide in the rematch, and lo and behold that's exactly what he did. Ruiz's extra weight certainly didn't help him, but he could have come in at his lowest professional weight ever and the result would have been similar. He simply isn't that great at closing fighters down, and you'll see that if he ever fights another decent outside boxer.
We should be encouraging Joshua, not putting the guy down. Quit with all the negativity towards him. How many of these Joshua haters can say they came back from failure, after everyone wrote them off? It wouldn't have been easy redefining your style and going back into the lion's den again. Give the guy a break, he's doing his goddamn best to be the best boxer and best man he can be.
He didn`t get past his jab, AJ stopped using it after getting floored in the third before that Ruiz didn`t land much and AJ landed a number of jabs, it`s the only punch AJ xcould land v Ruiz without being countered, he hardly landed any other type of punch in the rematch.
Yea his feet are too slow, punches are too rounded and looping, and he doesn't have the upperbody movement or footwork deftness to close the distance well enough against noticeably longer opponents.
