Two tough and durable guys with decent power and each with the heart of a Lion. I think this would be a great fight. What do you think ?
not really. Chuvalo absorbs what Weaver throws and his snails pace does not help him against a chin like Chuvalo's. question is if Mike could make it to the finish line--maybe a 10 rounder or 12 rounder he can. And drop a clear decision to Chuvalo.
I see George as a tough guy with a lot of quality losses. Weaver had the same but seemed more competitive against some of the top names he faced (and George had his share of troubles below the Ali-Foreman-Frazier level). Weaver took a lot of L’s early and late in his career. He was a late bloomer and he stayed on far too long. But in between I think he’s a better fighter than Chuvalo and with a lot more pop. Hercules isn’t going to stop this iron-chinned, durable campaigner, but he’s going to land more big punches that sway judges to give him close rounds. I figure Weaver wins a competitive decision.
George Chuvalo by a unanimous decision, Chuvalo has an iron chin having absorbed bombs from Joe Frazier and George Foreman without ever tasting the canvas. Mike Weaver although a very deadly hitter, would not be able to send George into dreamland.
Foreman had Chuvalo cowering in the corner not throwing anything had it went on despite what Chuvalo will tell you he would've been knocked out.
Most of you guys are missing that Weaver could actually box quite well, he wasn't some wild azz slugger. Watch him against Scott LeDoux and Pinklon Thomas. Anyway, Weaver out points George.
Weaver, at his best, was easily a top-5 contender, right? Chuvalo's record against top-5 contenders is 2-6, with the wins coming against Doug Jones and Jerry Quarry. George was tough as nails and was a rated fighter for a lot of years; longer than Weaver. But I think Weaver was the better fighter. I'd expect a performance somewhat like Weaver-LeDoux, but with Chuvalo being a tougher test.
