Herbie Hide vs Michael Moorer

Battle of the weak chinned fast handed punchers, who wins?

 

Moorer not totally chinny, just human. Moorer knocks out Hide, it takes him a while to get past those fast hands tho.

 

I would have really liked to see this one in the mid 90’s. I think it would have been a slugger’s battle and a crowd pleasing fight. Michael Moorer was the better fighter but Hide would have been a dangerous opponent.

 

It would probably look like moore vs cooper. A fan's dream fight.

 

Short, exciting fast fight. Multiple kds all coming before the 4 th round. In the fifth, Moorer finally nails Hide.

 

Hide hit a little harder and has faster hands. Moorer is better on defense. Neither man took a good punch. Could go either way.

I think he had a cruiser weight chin, same as Hide. At heavyweight that's a handicap. It took Bowe 5 rounds to stop Hide after landing some hard shots. It took Foremam just two really good shots to stop Moorer. IMO Bowe and Foreman in the 1990's as punchers were comparable. I'd give the edge to Bowe as he got tremendous leverage on his shots.

 

I agree that this one packs action. But was it a realistic scenario in 1994 too?
Hide beat Bentt on march 19th (WBO title) and Moorer beat Holyfield a month later. After that, Hide didn´t fight for a year to meet Bowe, like Foreman did too for Moorer. Of course Foreman was for the money (Moorer made 7M) and the WBO was put down at times.

Eventually another pairing might have been Moorer vs. Hide instead of Foreman? Does anyone know if this was in debate at the time?

 

It would probably look a lot like Cooper-Moorer, except Hide doesn't run out of gas after dropping Moorer.

Hide could definitely drop Moorer.

 

I might give Herbie the edge. If there were no knockouts, I could definitely see Hide winning most of the rounds. Moorer was pretty methodical. Hide was the better boxer and was the busier fighter.

I don't recall it. Back then, if you even fought for the WBO belt the other orgs would ignore you. Evander Holyfield wouldn't fight Riddick Bowe in their third fight until Bowe vacated the WBO belt. Evander didn't want to lose his ratings with the other orgs by even competing for it.

 

Would be a very interesting fight ! Both fast and hit hard both a bit chinny. Moorer was a better boxer and a better finisher. Don't put the kettle on !!!!
