Jersey Joe Walcott immediately springs to mind. I'll try and think of some others, this is a good thread

 

I'd almost see some kind of traceable logic if his point didn't completely destroy itself by saying "oh people overrate it because it was American" and in the same post listing Frank Bruno as one of the champions.

Not to mention the fact that 90% of Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali's opponents were American, yet that standard clearly doesn't apply to them.

Given that Communists weren't allowed to box until the late '80s and that Kazakhstan wasn't even an independent country up untill '91, you're point is moot.

And why on earth does it matter? The quality of an opponent has nothing to do with where they're from.

 

Anthony Mundine

Possibly Lucas Browne could have been a top heavyweight if he never did MMA and started boxing when he was younger.

 

Completely agree about Mundine, no offense, his dad was a terrific fighter but a terrible trainer. Mundine Jr had a very enigmatic career.

 

A guy like Tony 'Mad Dog' Miller as well, world ranked for years, had a real good career, was still a good fighter when he was an 'old' man and tough as nails but he stuck around with Keith Ellis for so long as trainer.

 

A lot of aussie fighters when you think about it even when you look at Johnny Lewis, arguably Australia's greatest trainer of all time yet he was more of a fitness type coach than a 'technique and skill' type coach. Lewis was good in the corner on fight nights though.
