Where does Félix Trinidad rank among the greatest boxers of the last thirty years?

Trinidad was a very good fighter but where does he rank among any of the champs in the last 30 years (P4P)?

 

He’s became very underrated. One of the fighters who’s poor performances are most scrutinized like the Wright one which really should be tossed out.

He was a great fighter, dominant in most of his fights, very consistent and though fairly one dimensional, that dimension was incredible. He unified two hot divisions in back to back years, beat two young unbeaten champions at 154 on the back of his 15 defenses and unifying at 147. The Joppy performance and win was greatly impressive too.

I would say he’s a top 10 of the last 30 years. Probably around 7-10.

 

This is spot on. People like to refer to him as some one dimensional fraud, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Trinidad was a killer at 147 - he was like a seek and destroy robot - and it took huge middleweight beating on him for 11+ rounds to finally stop him. During his comeback he was a part time fighter and looked lackluster, but that shouldn't define him.

 

I pasted it from Quora and didn`t think it that important to mend it, I think the guy posting it on Quora thinks only heavyweights could have beat Trinidad and doesn`t know much about weight classes in general, a casual etc.

It is weird to exclude heavyweights since traditionally pound for pound lists have always tended to favour the smaller, faster fighters over heavyweights anyway. I think Mike Tyson was the last heavyweight to top most people’s P4P lists and that was over 30 years ago.

I never thought of that, but you're right. The smaller guys get points for being more dynamic and versatile and all the heavyweights' power gets overlooked.

 

I think an extremely high percentage of his questions are copied from elsewhere.

I have him narrowly ahead of:

So I have him #7. Toney, sure has more “skills” but was also far more passive and if we are going to punish Tito for losing to Hopkins, a debatable decision over De La Hoya and a post prime loss against Wright, then surely Toney’s either way win over Johnson, gift over Tiberi, losses to Tiberi and Johnson factor in? Also, was his late surge at cruiser and heavy entirely clean?
