He has a very padded resume, Tony Tucker. I see about three good wins on there....Douglas, McCall, and Ferguson. Can anyone recommend a Tucker fight in which he put on an inspired performance?
he lost to mccall it was on the phil jackson/ruddock undercard but the judges scwred mccall ....he also lost to orlin norris but got gift dec
About the only thing Tucker was good at was surviving. His career path and record was largely on par with someone like Henry Akinwande. Had James Douglas shown more heart in 1987 he likely would have been the IBF champ that evening. As for Ruddock, his competition wasn't much better in all reality. Sure he had more names in his win column but most of them were washed up to the point of being shot. About the only thing that sets them apart for me is that Razor actually took chances and forced the action. Tony was a bit more skilled but most honest judges won't give him a decision on survival tactics alone.
His win over James Broad was better than beating ferguson and probably McCall too. Broad was ranked in the mid 80s.
Broad was probably his best win, but at the time, Broad was on the downslide. Tony had more talent than Donovan, but I think Ruddock punched harder than Tucker. If Tony had developed like he should have its a non contest win for Tucker, but he still wins a close one here with all he had.
I think Ruddock would probably will his way to a sloppy decision win, 100% by trying harder and not by being the better fighter.
Tony Tucker by ud12 .Tucker had better jab and he wasn't so vulnerable.Honorable mention Tucker's decent chin and great stamina. I respect Ruddock for his toughness but he was very easy to hit .
