Boxrec has his reach as 77 in. That is incorrect. On every 'tale of the tape' I have seen of him his reach was listed as 82 in, and once at 84in. I don't know where they got that 77 figure from. You can just look at him and see that he has longer arms than that.
Sanders would blow him out of there early, Douglas didn't have the height and reach advantage like he did against Tyson. I notice it's the Tyson nuthuggers who are picking Douglas, they can't accept that another journeyman could knock out the man who knocked out the man. Don't think they've heard the term styles make fights. His fast, sharp straight punches would get Douglas out of there in no time.
Yeah, Douglas gets overrated due to the Tyson fight. Even if he was great against Tyson, we're talking about a 6'4 and 83-inch reach fighter utilizing those height and reach advantages against a short fighter who came straight at him. The idea that "Tokyo Douglas" is a "handful for any prime ATG" or whatever is a flawed argument, since it ignores the specific physical and style factors that allowed him to beat Tyson. On the other hand, Corrie Sanders was nothing special. A good puncher and a southpaw, a decent boxer. But he was iced in 2 rounds by Nate Tubbs and stopped in 7 by Hasim Rahman, fighters who were not better than Douglas. I'd favour Douglas against Sanders.
Douglas got KO'd in 2 vs Bey, in 9 vs Mike White (whoever he may be) and also dropped a decision to Jesse Ferguson (a guy with 18 losses) ... none of whom are better than Sanders So where does that leave us?
He obviously had a short reach and Brighton bomber's claims regarding it are true. If anything boxrec exaggerates reach stats even more than it exaggerates height stats which is by a lot.
