"LETS NOT FORGET !"-fo diccck head, I'll bet you were a navy seal too right?? Seems like I've met them all, hate internet safety web , think they are bullies with their BS NAME CALLING on boxing subjects, i'll say one thing for Jerry Quarry his fans on their site's, have much more class than you birds!! BTW LOTERY , IS SPELLED LOTTERY, "SIMPLETON OLD MAN!"
Hello Mr. Magoo lets not forget, you once stated Quarry was knocked down alot? against who? Only Muhammad ALI has a slight better record when he is knocked down in the heavyweights (3-1, 3 knockouts) Quarry 3-2-1 (3 knockouts) Jerry hit the floor 7 times in his career, Bonavena I know of at least 10. The Patterson knockdown should not even be on his record, he was tapped on the shoulder missing a power shot. and since Patterson was awarded a 2 point round, would have been a victory then for 21 year old Jerry. Bonavena never knocked out anyone in the top ten (at the time) 4-7-1 in his elite fights. Quarry 8-7-1 ( 4 knockouts) 2 kayo's vs Number #1 contenders in his elite fights Like Mr. Magoo stated "Better Resume" (Bonavena pulled out of 3 Quarry fights, signed bouts!) To where Bonavena would have made plenty of American Dineros$$
It's funny, people in the vein of huge Quarry fans seem so much more respectful and scientific than the Tyson fans, even if Tyson was a better fighter (not that he is necessarily)
I don’t remember this thread nor the comment you’re referring to but even if Bonavena was decked more than Quarry, he was stopped a hell of a lot LESS.
I was surprised you said it Mr. Magoo, which your sure entitled to your own opinion anyway, to me Jerry had an Iron jaw always, so did Oscar. MAYBE I READ WRONG WHO IT WAS FROM, REGARDLESS, NOT EARTH SHATTERING. (NOT KIDDING ABOUT THE ONE PATTERSON KNOCKDOWN, JERRY WAS OFF BALANCE FROM A POWER SHOT, AND FLOYD TAPPED HIM ON THE SHOULDER ON THE WAY DOWN. Ironically it was the seventh round one of Quarry's best rounds, ended a 2 pointer for Patterson, under the California rules. (Were talking the draw decision at the coliseum)
Oscar Bonavena was definitely interesting and worthy of a thread.Without really digging in he appears to have been tough as nails put on the other hand didn’t beat anyone he wasn’t expected to beat.
Anyone who came to Jerry with two left feet, were either in for a long (Ron Lyle) or short (Earnie Shavers, Jack Bodell ) evening. Despite the ending, JERRY WHIPPED UP ON GEORGE , much better than Oscar to the point, that 1966 decision could have went to Chuvalo! Chuvalo's face looked like he'd been in a train wreck vs Jerry! Ringo may have looked better vs Ali and Frazier for sure, But Ali did not deck Quarry (3 times) Quarry better against Patterson & Ellis Jerry has a slight "common opponent" ADVANTAGE.
Quarry dropped Patterson 4 times, Patterson was awarded a tap on the shoulder seventh round bogas 2 point knockdown, or Jerry would have won both fights! Ali dropped Ringo 3 times Ellis dropped Ringo twice Blue Lewis dropped Ringo twice Folley at least dropped Ringo once Quarry defeated Lyle (Jerry was also past his prime)
Oscar never knocked out anybody in the top ten, and thats tells me something, Certainly no one of Quarry's stature, And Oscar knew something of Quarry, For pulling out of signed fights, were Ringo would have been paid Mucho American Dollars, Just on Tv rights to Argentina alone. It would not surprise me Jerry stopped Bonavena, those counterpunching skills were evident, Remember this is best for best, and Jerry beat 9 and knocked out 5 top ten fighter's and two of those kayoes were over number #1
That would be the first time 'Ringo' ever stopped anyone who was ranked in the top ten Yeah I'm sure would be Quarry !! Quarry would have a better record vs Bonavena's opponents and Oscar would have a worse record vs Quarry's opponents!
