How does Lennox Lewis have a commentary job?

I for one am waiting for Scott Quigg to take his rightful place in the commentary box once he hangs up his gloves. Although I fear it may take Scott a few attempts to actually get them on a hook.

 

What else would you expect from a clown?

Yeah, Lennox seems like a great guy but he ain't the sharpest tool in the shed. He's terrible. LOL.

 

Boxing, like other sports, is in thrall to the lustre of past champions and the use of a name to add value to a production. The fact is Lennox won hearts for his performances in the ring, not his pre and post fight interviews. Indeed, he talked himself into bother because although he's not a fool, he's not as good a talker as he thinks he is.

Contrast with someone like Pauli malignaggi, not half the boxer or achievements, but a real asset to the production with astute commentary and provocative opinions.

It's good to have a professional's opinion, but that pro doesn't need to be an atg to give viewers an insight into the sport. In a perfect world it would be their performance behind the mic that got them their next job in the commentary booth, not their exploits in the ring 20 years ago.

 

Can see him doing Matchroom shows, he'll be excellent at reading off a script like he usually does.

 

Introducing the all new commentary team of Adrien Broner, James Toney and the hideously racist living corpse that is Larry Merchant. I’d buy the ppv without caring who was fighting.

 

Broner could carry the entire production himself. Just provide the liquor, drugs and prostitutes, get someone to rile him up (wouldn't take much) and tell the director to sack the card off and just focus all the cameras on the commentary desk.

 

Lennox has a big problem , If you got to know him you'd realise he is actually a very shy person. Many think he's stand offish but he really is one of the nicest guys in the business. He knows the game well but has difficulty making that known. As a color commentator he is one of the best out there
As for Jones jr All he does is talk about himself. He has difficulty reading a fight & so praises himself plus its hard to understand him at times . Maybe he stayed too long in the ring he sure took some scarey Ko's

 

I don't think that this is fair. Lewis is a cerebral guy. You have to remember that he is in his fifties and fought against some of the hardest punchers ever. He is not punch drunk, but he might be feeling the effects.

As for his commentary, I would rather have him than someone who only knows boxing in theory.

No thread like this would be completed, without George Foreman. Loved him as a fighter, but man... His commentary was comedy gold at times.

“That’s it! That’s it, he BROKE HIS LEG!” - Foreman during Lewis-Grant, when Grant was knocked down for the third time.

Lennox during Fury Wilder 2:
“Ehm Wilder has to jab, he has to jab be-because if he doesn’t Fury will jab. He has to jab Fury before Fury jabs him. Out jab the jabber”

 

He's pretty rough to listen to. I'd love to see a fight card called solely by Roy and B-Hop.
