I can hardly think of any high profile American fighter in recent memory who fought in that style besides maybe Jarett Hurd or Deontay Wilder. But neither of them had any skill to really made a historical impact.

What happened to the Holyfield, Tyson, Hagler, SRL, Hearns, Frazier, Foreman, SRR, type American fighter? Where did they all go. These guys had 1 thing in mind and that was to destroy their opponent.

You can still find these types of fighters, but they tend to come from Latin America or Eastern Europe where the trainers still emphasize the true art of boxing.

Sugarhill showed everybody that the name of the game in boxing is aggression. Duran showed SRL. Frazier showed Ali. Boxing has always been about 1 man exerting his will over another through aggression and skill. But then sometime around 90s American trainers stopped preaching really putting it on your opponent and fighting all caution like.

What happened to the art of real boxing in America?

Alot of the recent most talented American fighers became obsessed with copying Mayweather.

I think partly because they thought Mayweather had cracked the code to become filthy wealthy and famous in the sport. Adrien Broner especially comes to mind here, an insanely talented guy who copied Mayweather and never developed his own style. Then got very lazy, and is now finished.

Mayweather was a one off. Just like Roy Jones was a one off. Just like Mike Tyson was a one off.

You need to be your own man, and fight in your own style. Do not become a tribute act.

Mayweather and PPV influence. Now more than ever a boxer is a brand and if you can get enough casual fans following, you've got it made. Build up a great undefeated record, quality opposition be damned, and work your way into the big money PPV, and cash out. You saw a business man fight the rematch against Andy Ruiz. The latest trend in boxing seems to be A side vs B side that doesn't have a chance, fight safe, get the win, if the KO comes is comes. Of course there's a bit of hyperbole in this and there are exceptions, but in general this is how I see it.

Simple, they were never that good to begin with. Boxing is international now and not a golden gloves in pro rank like back in the day.
Imagine how many thousand of good ee, cubans and latinos couldnt participate in pro ranks because of politics.

No the misconception is to think that the talent Pool today is smaller or that the talented go play basektball and football instead of boxing. Those are obscure misconceptions.

We still produce some decent fighters, but we haven't produced a great fighter in a long time. The last one was Andre Ward and he was the only real great fighter we have produced in many, many years. And even though he wasn't your typical seek and destroy type of fighter he still did what he had to do and took the fight to his opponent. He didn't do of all this run around BS.

So the thousands of ee, cubans and latinos weren’t allowed to compete in the olympics too, when Fraizer, Ray Leonard, Holyfield and Foreman won olympic gold medals? This argument is just as moronic as “they all playin basketball” argument. Noone at Lomachenko’s or Inoue’s size is playing basketball or American football, and those greats proved their greatness both in the pros and in the amateurs where everyone was allowed to compete.

You need a complete tool kit due to bribed refs and judges. Ricky Hatton Vs Mayweather jr. Joesph Parker Vs. Joshua. Shawn Porter Vs. Spence etc etc etc. A lot of money and crooked executives sees that refs break apart the “seek and destroy” fighter to protect the mainstream politics backed fighter. Why use a style (if you don’t have to) that a crooked ref can just nullify? Just my two cents.
