With the resurfaced video of Wilder dogging out Mike Tyson’s caliber of opponents it got me thinking....For some reason I think the closest might be Ruddock... they both relied heavily on there one power shot and had limited skill sets.... Although quite honestly I think Ruddock’s fundamentals were superior to Wilders. The difference of the 2 is Wilder has the height, reach, and more pop in his right hand.... But Ruddock did have tremendous power with the smash. If you had to choose someone who would you use as a comparison?
I'm no fan of Wilder but McNeeley lost to butterbean & bums like Stanley Wright ffs You can't really compare a guy who defended the WBC belt numerous times & only has 1 loss to a probable future HOFer to McNeeley LOL Yes Wilder is limited but he's athletically gifted & he also has an equaliser punch that could stack up to ANY HWs power in history! Peter had neither of those things.. I've watched a couple of McNeeley fights & Wilders jab & right hand are far superior to McNeeleys, & so is his speed.. Wilder would decapitate that guy.. again, not a Wilder fan but I can't agree with statements like that. Don't forget Wilder turned pro late & was learning on the job, he didn't have a wealth of amateur experience.
Similar in what way ? I’d say Mitch Green who was lanky guy and fast at 6”5 Weighed 225 and power wise it would be Ruddock ,
Bonecrusher. Big, plodding, limited, powerful right hand, serviceable chin. The differences being Smith actually beat a couple of legit guys, and is a highly intelligent college graduate who is a delight to listen to, wheres Wilder is a fraud and a violent oaf.
Most likely Tony Tucker. He had similar physical dimensions to Wilder, had just as good of a right hand, and was also moved very slow. Besides being more technically sound than Wilder and having a deep amateur background Tucker for the most part is the most similar Mike Tyson opponent to Wilder.
Jose Ribalta Tony Tucker Mitch Green Frank Bruno Carl Williams Pinklon Thomas James Smith All big strong 6ft4+ opponents who got iced by 5ft9 midget Tyson with a lisp.
Tucker, Green and Smith went the distance. Beaten, but not "iced." Thomas was 6'3" Boxrec has Bruno at 6'3", although I remember him as being 6'4" Tyson is billed at 5'10" (I have no idea which is true) With the exception of Smith, all of those fighters had more skill, even Mitch Green. Thomas was in a different boxing universe despite taking up boxing very late.
Wilder is more dangerous, Ruddock was lazy and would spend large parts of fights not punching, Wilder sets up his right hand well with a long jab and his combo`s are far better.
Bruno was clearly shorter than Lewis when they fought, Lewis was 6'5 and you could se the 2 inch difference when they met.
