Being bored during lockdown means I'm interested in seeing how I rank Mayweather and how others rank him.

I would have no reason to want to detract from his wins.

What happened, happened, how certain fights are perceived is a subjective matter.

There's no reason whatsoever to want to detract.

That's ok. No one takes you seriously. So anytime a fight doesn't happen it's because Floyd ducked them. You are brilliant!

So all these fellas are to blame for not accepting the crappy purse splits Mayweather was demanding? Easiest thing in the world to demand the lion's share of the purse and then blame the other guy when he refuses.

They weren't offered small sums though. And yes Judah ended up making allot less money.

Beating prime versions of Cotto and Manny would have made a very significant impact on his legacy.

He’d always have been criticised for missing certain people though. You simply can’t please everybody. It’s just not possible. Even if he’d have gotten to 100-0, there’d still be threads made on who he ducked/didn’t fight.

Name any fighter in history and I’ll name you someone he didn’t fight.

He was a great fighter. One of the greatest of all time. But not facing Manny earlier, as well the IV incident, will always harm his legacy.

Come on now. Taking boxing politics into consideration and just overall timing, there are always going to be guys that a boxer doesn't face. He actually called out Mosley when he was at 130 and Mosley was at 135 and look how that turned out. Could Jack Johnson have did more, could Marciano, Jack Dempsey, Mosley, Spinks, the list goes on and on. Winky and Williams would have been challenging but in my opinion he would have been favored over all the other guys. Winky was also a big Jr. Middle weight. Mayweather fought at 154 2x, against Canelo and De la Hoya. My question to you is where do you rank Mayweather in the 47lb divison history? In my opinion he is top 5. If you disagree name the fighters that are better skill wise and legacy wise, outside of Ray Robinson and Ray Leonard. Honeralbe mention Duran and Hearns, but not so sure Hearns would be a given over Mayweather as far as legacy/skill set.

You've said a lot here without actually saying much.

But as of today my ranking is

    1 Sugar Ray Robisnon
    2 Ray Leonard
    3 Tommy Hearns
    4 Roberto Duran
    5 Henry Armstrong
    6 Jose Napoles
    7 Kid Gavilan
    8 Emile Griffith
    9 Barney Ross
    10 Floyd Mayweather

I reckon all the names above Floyd speak for themselves. They're either elite level I fighters who would pressure Floyd and win, or better quality boxers who would outbox him.

And Floyd is a dubious tenth place. It could easily be LMR, De La Hoya, Mosley, Trinidad, Forrest, Pacquiao, Curry, Starling, Walker.

A lot of guys on that level, I gave Floyd the edge based on one thing and one thing only, his fighter of the decade award.

Hunh... what he was able to achieve and defeat showed how great he was. When he fought Corrales that wasn't a gimme fight for Floyd. Despite the Pac man fight coming later, that was also no easy fight for Floyd. I thought the Canelo fight would have been alot more difficult than it was. In retrospect, im sure people on here would disagree and say how Canelo was too green or whatever. Floyd did have difficulty in some fights i.e. Castillo/Maidana/Mosley/Cotto/Augustus. He was hurt very bad 2x vs Mosley, dropped by Judah(although) it wasn't called. arguably behind on points in the first half against Hatton and Judah, won a close fight(according to judges) against De la hoya. Then in his late 30's went upto 154lbs to take on Canelo. So how did he "not test himself or take on alot of risk" as you put it?

Thats a very good list, thats very similar to what i would have written up. I wasn't just speaking on H2H, but his legacy and his impact on boxing, how he transcended the sport economically, his longevity, being his own promoter in the latter half of his career, how he was able to blend MMA/boxing to bring in one of the biggest gates in either sport, etc. Based on all that i think Mayweather may be interchangeable with Hearns. I think the aforementioned accolades trump the rest in the lower half of the list. Thats just my opinion though.

I would favour Floyd to beat the guys listed above him, or to do better against a field of opposition than the guys listed above him.

Well, he ain't Duran, Robinson, Armstrong, Ali, Louis, Hearns, or Leonard. I don't even think he was Salvador Sanchez, though that might be unfair considering Sanchez' way too early death.

To this day I'm convinced he lost his toughest fight (and I think we all know which one that was). And I never saw that ultra-killer instinct in Mayweather...he usually just smoothed his way out of things. Never saw that Frazier look of do-or-die, that Leonard give-everything look at the end of the first Hearns fight.

That said, I certainly consider him a top pfp ATG...would be surprised if anyone didn't here.
