No chance this goes the distance. It probably wouldn't go past 8 rounds. Two massive punchers in here. McClellan was a flamboyant risk taker with fast hands who would stand and wing. He had a weird ability to throw wide shots really quickly. Difficult to defend against or even see coming. A real nightmare. Turpin was a beautifully put together, compact Fighter and a murderous body puncher. At his peak, Randy also had a decent chin. He also had superb footwork, almost Joe Louis like. His feet barely left the canvass as he moved so he was always anchored to put the power into a shot, even if changing direction. I'll take Randy in 6 of the most exciting rounds you could imagine.
McClellan early or Turpin late or on points. EDIT thinking about it, with day before weigh ins McClellan would be 2 weight classes bigger. You have to pick the bigger man in that case
I think Turpin wins, simply because he's better. Sure McClellan can really punch, and Turpin wasn't made of absolute granite, but neither was Benn. I think Turpin wins clearly for no reason apart from being the better fighter. Watson vs Turpin? Now that's a fight!
Turpin was better at slipping shots than Benn was and G-man missed a lot of shots against Nigel, he looked sloppy in that fight.
To be fair tho Mark, McClellan wasn't healthy in that fight imo. Not sure if the damage to his brain was there pre fight or what but he was showing signs early on in the fight.
McClellan said himself he was around 171 at middleweight and 175 at super-middleweight. So less than 1 weight class bigger at middle with the unfair advantage of day before weigh ins which Turpin didn't have. Either way a year after beating Robinson for the 160 strap Turpin stopped a 175 Don Coc kell while weighing 162, I think you're over stating weight by a large amount for this particular matchup. I highly doubt McClellans weight would play too important a factor here. Other than the fact that if he fought back in Turpins day he probably wouldn't have been able to be a middleweight.
