I've put Castillo's name first because he's going the be the defending champion here. But instead of Mayweather moving up for his LW debut, it's going to be De La Hoya moving up. So the version of Oscar that faced Paez. Who takes this? From 99-2005 Castillo either the number 1 or number 2 LW in the world. I'll post my scorecard for the Mayweather fights later on, I'm watching them now, but he only lost to Mayweather and Corrales in this time and he's arguably 1-1 with them both. De La Hoya had a very short stint as a LW and was arguably never the number 1 fighter, although when he unified with Ruelas a lot put him number 1 above Gonzalez (who he later beat) So is Oscar able to put speed Castillo with his combinations? Does he meet fire wihh fire and win the close quarters battle? Or does Castillo pound out a decision as he comes on strong down the stretch?
In a sense I agree. I think Oscar would light him up, but would he do it for 12 rounds? Oscar has a history of fading in fights, he wasn't a great 12 round fighter. Castillo did get chinned by Corrales and Oscar has the same power and speed advantages, but could anyone bank on a one in a million hook like that? I'm trying to use my minds eye, and if Oscar hasn't put Castillo away before the 7th I think he's in for a very tough fight.
De La Hoya would box on his toes and behind his jab and built a lead but fade late to make it close. Oscar 115-113.
I'm gonna pick Castillo to try and even it out a bit. Like others I see Oscar having a stylistic advantage, but I don't think he can fight at the pace required to beat Castillo at mid range and I don't think he can outbox him from range full stop. Oscar wins the first 5. Castillo wins the next 7 but gets robbed by the judges.
Oscar by decision. I don't think Castillo's style would be troublesome for him. No blow out, but Oscar is clear winner.
Castillo gets knocked clean out tbh. At 130 and 135 oscar was weight bullying hard and was hitting crazy
Oscar De La Hoya fairly decisively, Jose Luis Castillo was Julio Cesar Chavez's sparring partner, and there style is somewhat similar although Chavez is a class above Castillo. Oscar beat Chavez pretty decisively both times, yes i know Chavez was way past his prime. But i still don't think Castillo has any attributes that could beat a prime Oscar. Oscar was bigger, hit harder, was faster, better footwork, etc. I'd say Oscar by late stoppage or decisive points win
