160 lbs....18th November 1990....WBO Middleweight title....either 1 of Eubanks- or Benn has pulled out 6 weeks earlier...Steve Collins has stepped in....how does he do against either?

Collins had prime McCallum on the run this year. He beats both. He was always a terrible matchup for Benn who relied on his physicality to bully his opponents which doesn't work against Steve.

He's certainly no pushover, but both Eubank and Benn were lightning fast at that time, just look at the opening punch of Benn-Barkley or Eubank making Watson look slow motion in their first fight. This was before the day-before weigh-ins.

Steve looked far from the complete fighter vs McCallum, amateurish even. Didn't even maintain any kind of shape/form. Big and strong and tough and above average speed and mobility, but absolutely didn't know how to punch, bob and weave or control a tempo.

Benn brutally stops him on cuts, Eubank would nicely outbox him over 12. Neither would be as motivated as they were against eachother obviously, Benn's genuine hate and Eubank's all or nothing moment of truth.

In the last few rounds. Nobody had McCallum do that.

How about KALAMBAY who outboxed him.
He got tired the last couple of rounds.

Mike pounded on Collins in round 10. Im mean he painted his face and body.
11th round was close but I gave it to Collins.
12th round Mike has the fight won by a WIDE margin. So he gets on his bike and pops the jab. And Collins lands occasionally but misses alot even falling into the ropes. Gave round to Collins for aggression and Mike just coasted.
Collins never hurt Mike anytime. In fact Mike hurt Collins a couple of times.
Young Benn takes his head off because Benn could hit and Collins has No DEFENSE and he isnt going to absorb those types of blows all fight.
Young Eubank? Outboxes him and maybe stops him if hes in the mood.

No one would take Collins head off, not even young Benn. Collins was never stopped in his career.
A younger Benn may beat a 1990 Collins on points, but I doubt he stops him unless it's a cut.
Having seen Michael Watson and Eubank stop Benn, I would have my doubts whether Benn ever beats Collins either. Smart tricky-type boxers had a better chance. Steve was a tough rugged guy always.

Watson was a more skilled boxer then Collins.
    As was Eubank.
KEVIN WATTS dropped Collins. BENN takes his head off.

Only he didn't when he had the chance, did he?

Collins had wins over Sammy Storey, Watts and Tony Thornton in the earlier part of his career. He outboxed and outfought Thornton. Collins was a tough rugged dude based in the US when he was younger.
I feel it's unlikely Benn would ever stop Collins in my opinion, barring a cut. Steve was a rugged specimen who could box and brawl when it suited and the superior fighter overall in my view.

Oh I dont think they come any tougher then Collins no doubt. And he never quits.
And if a match up was to have been made against Benn he would be a live underdog for sure.
But to absorb the kind of bombs FLUSH that Benn would have landed repeatedly on Collins is asking alot from someone.
Collins would have to wait out till Benn got tired to win.

And lets remember that if Reggie Johnson would have stepped on the gas he would have TKO Steve.
He had him wavering then backed off- no shame in that as Johnson was a very good fighter.
Also overlooked is Eubank had Steve in tremendous trouble and backed off for some reason- had he applied any sort of pressure Steve doesnt see the final bell.

Never in a million years does Benn beat Collins Bull. The biggest style problem he couldve ever fought imo. Eubank is a close fight, but Collins again for me
