What's peoples opinion on him fed a regular diet of bin men and petrol station attendents up until he stepped up and fought Kovalev and got schooled in every round but did have the chance to finish him in the 8th but sadly gassed.
Can obviously punch, looks the part but style over substance. He got knocked out by a jab in a fight against the ghost of Kovalev. Personally don’t think he’ll win a world title but would like to see him rebuild and fight better quality fighters on the way to world title level. That’s his best bet.
He fought like a hero against Kovalev and his game plan to absorb punishment and take him out tired nearly worked. Let’s not forget that the majority of haters on this forum had Kovalev destroying Yarde and whilst Kovalev had won almost every round the game plan nearly worked and Yarde had him on the brink. Kovalev is famed for being one of the most spiteful boxers around, continuing to trash talk after fights, particularly against Pascal where he trashed him post fight in the ring. There’s a reason why after fighting Yarde Kovalev was praising Yarde in the ring and interrupting his interview to tell him that he is world class. I like what Yarde does, he’s limited for a reason as he only started boxing late. His methods are unorthodox but he has good power and decent fundamentals. It’s embarassing the hate he gets on here. Yes “lions in the camp” is cringe but he does his talking in the ring.
He definetly deserves props for his performance against kovalev he showed plenty of balls but just gassed at the end.he got criticism because he hadn't beaten a top 30 light-heavyweight and was being hyped beyond belief by certain media.he got blagged into a title shot let's be honest.having said that he proved he can compete at that level so will be interesting to see if he can improve in the future.
He has been brought along poorly imo. Had he had the right testing matchups along the way he would have had a much better chance against Kovalev. Instead he sustained a bit of a beating that can shatter an inexperienced fighters confidence and extremely detrimental to his health. Yardes management represents alot of what's wrong with boxing.
He and his trainer are ridiculously smug. Both are complete idiots. Anthony Yarde can't stop doing that licking his lips thing between every sentence he speaks and his trainer Tunde Ajayi laughs at all of his own (terrible) jokes. He has got some power, but not much else. His stamina will always be a serious issue.
I was very impressed with him against Kovalev, all things considered. Kov was on the slide but still a world level operator. If Yarde can really work on his fitness /stamina, he has an arsenal which could pose a threat. Interesting to see what happens with him. His life has certainly not been easy this year, losing 2 family members to Covid-19.
He's done absolutely ZERO talking in the ring as he's only fought completely trash. Where's his British level opposition? He was dominated by the Crusher, completely schooled.
We’ve been through the British opposition thing many times. It’s on record and acknowledged by both Hearn and Warren that Buglioni was offered a six figure purse to box Yarde and he turned it down claiming the money wasn’t good enough. No one is disputing that he was easily outpointed and then KO’d by Kovalev. But his game plan was to absorb punishment and catch him late on. It nearly worked. I bet if I ran through post histories I’d find a dozen posts here from people insisting that Kovalev would finish him early. Yarde went to Russia and boxed Kovalev bravely. Ask Kovalev what he thinks of Yarde. I’ll respect his post fight comments more than the haters who still insist that Yarde is some kind of joke. None of the haters thought Yarde would even fight Kovalev. And when the repeated hold ups were on Kovalev’s side clearly, they still slated him. If you can’t respect what Yarde did in the ring against Kovalev then I’m afraid boxing is not for you.
I was buzzing before the Kovalev fight and really rooting for Yarde and Tunde, I bought into the whole Lions thing and I was out of my seat with excitement in the 8th, it looked like he was going to pull it off. I had nothing but admiration for the way he tried. Quite a few people on here and social media tore into him before and after the fight but I thought it was a great effort for such a big step up. I want Yarde to do well, this bothered me though, I know the reasons behind it, I know others do it but it doesn't sit well with me and above all it is potentially very dangerous putting a career 154/160 journeyman with a 4-48 record or whatever it was in with a light heavy who has proven that he can bang, look at the weigh in for crying out loud......
