Canelos defence is pretty good but my knowledge of old school Mexican fighters isn't great.

Never knew he was Mexican. Always thought he was from Panama.

Miguel Canto is the first to come to mind. I would also add Chiquita Gonzalez, who was more known as a banger, was a real revelation in his 2nd and 3rd bouts with Michael Carbajal when he turned into a whirling dervish. I still remember the headlines in the boxing mags at the time when one writer wrote the headline "Could Rocky Marciano fight like Willie Pep?"

Chucho Castillo is an underrated pick IMO, he had very subtle movement and a lot of his defence came from his stunning offensive counters. He did, however, move his head in a fashion few can top.

Olivares and Herrera are two other amazing technicians, but Canto should be the defacto Numero Uno.

Befor he changed his style I thought JMM had a good defense. Let's not forgot Durans dad was Mexican but yea I know he considers himself Panamanian. But the facts are facts lol.

I have a couple , Sal Sanchez , and Julio Chavez Sr. Especially when considering how aggressive they fought.
