I thInk they would be up for it, wilder would be 36 or thereabouts but likely still the pre eminent American hw. If the unified champ wanted to please his paymasters at espn / Dazn then a wilder fight, especially if he's banjoed a couple of bums in the meantime, would be a good way of doing it.

Two different ways of looking at it. If you're a fighter then you should always want to take the biggest fights, certainly not turn away those opportunities. So if I was him, I'd take the fight. I commend Wilder for that to some degree.

However looking at it from the view that I am not a fighter and I am not him. It's plain to see that Tyson Fury is on another level and Wilder can't get near him, that won't change in another fight, or if it does it'll be a really huge upset.
He got really badly beat up last time and isn't capable of defending himself against a guy who really could hurt him. From that side of it, I don't think it's sensible that he's taking the fight and honestly, I don't think it's a fight that the public need to see again.

Again though, that's easy to say from my position, I'm not him

    Great post. Totally agree.
Wilder is a brave man, no dispute about that.
He just has to realise his limitations. He cannot beat a half fit Fury, forget a fully fit & focused one.
As I’ve previously said, he takes a side step & prays AJ beats Fury, if not I worry for him.
I just hope he is getting the best advice for himself, and not advice driven by money.

What's the latest on this? Certainly buzz lately about Fury vs AJ.

I know Fury Wilder 3 was postponed due to Covid. Is it still a go?

I think it’s a case of ‘watch this space’.
No doubt politics will get in the way etc.
I’m not convinced it sells. Wilder will probably be paid to step aside and the talking begins.
Pulev v Joshua is another issue too.

Why not pocket a couple million for free and fight for the undisputed belt?

In any event. I am not going to trash-talk Wilder for once. If he is man enough to jump right back in with Fury, I can't fault him for having stones. The smart thing to do would be to wait. Free step-aside, fighting for a bigger title, more time to add a couple of things (insofar as possible).

Retire, He’s most likely gonna lose to fury again and even if he wins he’s just gonna fight more bums, he won’t ever take the Joshua fight or any other big fight so why even keep his career going.

Personally, i'd like to see an end to the Wilder Fury trilogy before the belts potentially get unified. If it's Wilder's end, I'd rather see it end now so that the Fury Joshua fight would be that much more "final" on who really is the greatest.

As for what's best for Wilder, I think it's tough to say. I see 4 possibilities:

    1. He fights Fury now and wins. If he does this, then he gets the belt, and regains his legitimacy. He could then probably earn at least a few more big paydays before hanging it up. But from a fan's perspective, what would then happen to the Fury Joshua fights? Does it become Wilder Joshua instead? Would a Wilder win make unification more challenging, less challenging, or the same?

    2. He fights Fury now and loses. This would probably be the end of Wilder. He might fight a few more bums for some mediocre paydays, but his days as a champ or even as a contender are over.

    3. He fights and beats a couple of bums instead and waits for his shot at all 4 belts. This would certainly be financially beneficial. He could fight a few more fights, make ok money, then have at least that one big money fight with a chance at being an even bigger champ than he was before.

    4. He fights and LOSES to a couple of bums instead, while waiting for his shot at all 4 belts. This would definitely be the end of Wilder, and he'd have missed out on his Wilder Fury III payday and would probably be dropped from consideration for a shot at the winner of Fury Joshua.

Whether he fights Fury now or waits for the unification, I don't think he can afford to lose at this point.

Wilder needs to beat a young game challenger like Whyte to prove his worth

If I were Wilder I would take the step aside money and hope that Joshua can beat Fury. Wilder has no chance against Fury. Rumors the step aside money could be as high as 8 to 10 million. Take the money for doing literally nothing and fight the winner for another big payday. If it’s Joshua then Wilder might have a chance of getting his belt back. If it’s Fury he will lose every round on the way to getting KOed again.

I say take the Fury fight and retire wealthy with a comfortable happy and healthy life. However that is unless mega mega step aside money thrown at him, AJ vs Fury will be financially off the scale, so huge step aside money could be offered by the money men if they saw it as financially prudent $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ker ching, big money for not getting hit in the head sounds good to me.

The money men will want time to build and sell AJ and Fury to its fullest potential, but that is on the back of gambling with one or either losing their title to another in interim, which would kybosh the mega money fight.

Fury could return to his old ways of mental health, drug, alcohol and such difficulties (hope not and don't think he will, but still a gamble) either one could retire as the champ, again unlikely but still risk, finally we witnessed AJ with mobility issue at Black Lives demo, that could be hindrance if any level of degenerative condition, again not likely but another gamble all the same.

Money men in sport not keen on gambling with their money making athletes, Mr Ruiz blitzing of AJ might make the money guys much more risk averse.

    1. Take the second option, wait. If Fury won, then fight AJ. If successful with AJ, then fight Fury.
    2. Take the second option, wait. If AJ won, then fight him as originally intended.
