I enjoyed watching Andrew Selby and found him far more entertaining than his sister Lee Selby.

If only he had some power to go with his very good boxing skills.

He was unlucky in the 2012 draw, maybe could've got a medal there. Think that Rosales fight was the inkling he wouldn't progress much further. Good boxer, savvy enough to know when to walk away, best of luck to him.

That’s very unexpected tbf, anyone from Wales know anything more about the reasons for this?

I recall seeing an article a month or so back, with him saying he was considering not returning to boxing as he has 2 family members that are high risk to Covid 19 and he has many concerns about them contracting the disease in the case of boxing getting back. One was a son or daughter, that I think had severe asthma. I can't find the link this second but will edit and update later if I can locate it.

(edit: my mistake, that article and comment in question was Lee)

Wishing Andrew the best in retirement.

One of those fighters I still had down as 26/27 as his career hadn't kicked on. Obviously got his reasons to call it a day so good luck to him

Think he'd suffered with depression at some point as well.

He had said on several occasions that he doesn't like boxing, he was a good fighter who only lost on the road under tough circumstances, didn't prepare properly for the altitude and paid the price. Martinez turned out to be a very good fighter too so no shame there. He had some good domestic fights that could have been made so disappointing to see him out of that mix.

Real shame. After beating Rosales he deserved a title shot but never got it and then a combination of injuries, depression and bad management saw him end up having to go to Mexico at short notice for an eliminator. He gave a far better account of himself in there against Martinez than Charlie Edwards did but nobody will remember that, just the KO defeat. I really hoped we'd get to see him school Edwards.

Shame but he had no backing so really limited his chances at success.

Brilliant amateur, so naturally talented.... such a shame things haven't worked out for him because a few years ago I would have had him nailed on to win world titles.

Saw him at York Hall once, he looked very good then. Someone who really hasn't fulfilled their potential. Best of luck to him.

real shame all them years training learning
    dedicating to a goal
    which never really materialized
    12 fights and out
i hope he finds something he enjoys doing
with the rest of his life
    skilful individual
    better than his bro imo
