Would Lyle be too big for Charles or would Charles be too good for Lyle?

Charles is better than Young in every department, except maybe chin. He schools Lyle.

I love Lyle, but I think Charles is too crafty, but Charles was not KO-proof even in his prime. I think Lyle could knock him out in the middle rounds after a lathering.

I dont think Charles has the power to make lyle respect him, you could make a case that Charles was more skillful and crafty than quarry, but he also didn't have quary's size, power or chin, I wouldnt rule out a Charles u.d. but I think lyle is just too much of a bull and did fight much stronger opposition.

Charles fought and beat some real good fighters I'm not taking that away from him, he was a phenomenal light heavyweight, but are we gonna pretend that the heavyweight and light heavyweights of the 40s or 50s was as tough as the 70s?

It depends. An ATG light heavy/cruiser sized heavy could take a decent more modern sized heavy like Lyle. In fact, Quarry, far as size is concerned, would fit in better with the heavies of the 40s and 50s than more modern sized heavies.

I think he was a crafty counter puncher and master level boxer but he did lack physicality, he doesnt usually knock head backs even when he gets leverage into his shots unless their a counter, and I remember one dude he landed 4 picture perfect hooks on didnt even budge him a little, still wouldnt want to get hit by him but I think for knock outs he realized he'd need to land a well timed and counter which he was a master at

LHW certainly wasn't as good in 1970s as in 1940s.

I agree, but it was pretty damn strong in the 70s.
