Don't you know that you are a shooting star? Don't you know? And all the world will love you just as long... As long as you are.
I rate dominant reigns very highly. It's probably my #1 criteria. 1.) Joe Louis 2.) Muhammad Ali 3.) Larry Holmes 4.) Jack Johnson 5.) Rocky Marciano 6.) Mike Tyson 7.) Lennox Lewis 8.) George Foreman 9.) Jack Dempsey 10.) Joe Frazier 11.) Evander Holyfield 12.) Sonny Liston 13.) Wladimir Klitschko Favorite Heavyweights: Mike Tyson, Larry Holmes, Riddick Bowe, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Sonny Liston, Michael Dokes, Frank Bruno, Jerry Quarry, Floyd Patterson, Joe Frazier, Evander Holyfield, Mike Weaver.
I've always been of the opinion that Tyson is all wrong for Holmes. The mythical holmes that always danced around the ring firing the jab, never got caught with a counter right, and never got into exchanges.. sure that Holmes may win a UD15 vs. Tyson, but The real Holmes, who was a great fighter; but who did let his ego get him into firefights, and didn't hold on like he should or get on his bike, and who was caught by worse boxers and finishers than Tyson. I don't like Holmes style vs. Tyson's, and think he starts out with that advantage from the jump, and Tyson doesn't need many advantages, especially a prime one
Larry could be hit so Tyson would definitely have a really good shot. I just think prime Holmes would recover from any scary moments and win a decision. Shavers landed a massive bomb on Holmes and Larry recovered. I’m not sure Tyson punches as hard as Shavers.
Holmes had immense ring IQ & an incredible jab in his prime. That jab would he snapping all night. I don't think Holmes would knock him out... But it would be a pretty convincing victory by decision.
Holmes performances against Holyfield and Mercer would suggest he wasn't shot to bits when Tyson destroyed him. I think Mikes a bad matchup for him, he kept ducking under his jabs and he didn't have the answer for it.
It's a really tough fight to call ... I may slightly lean to Larry boxing him like he did Shaver 1 and seeing Mike unravel a bit based on his immaturity and win a decision but really not sure ..
Holmes UD. Im sorry but i really feel like Tyson beating a well past it retired Holmes partly ruined Holmes legacy. Holmes in his prime would beat Tyson imo
I'm with you on a Holmes victory, and quite possibly over 12. But I get the feeling sometime Larry would get knocked down and come roaring back for a late round stoppage, if not within 12 than most certainly 15. If Buster Douglas did it...I don't care how good Buster was that night in Tokyo, he wasn't the Holmes that knocked the bejesus out of Leon Spinks.
Tyson all day long. When Tyson was growing up, Holmes was the champion. Cus D'Amato expected Holmes to still be the champ when Mike would be ready to challenge for the title, so he trained him specifically to beat Holmes and fighters with that style. A lot of his drilling involved slipping/getting under the jab, countering and changing angles of attack. I don't know if Tyson stops him or he just wins on points, but he wins nonetheless. Of this I am absolutely convinced.
