Do amateur boxers rehydrate like professionals or do most of them fight near their walk around weight? Wondering because I’m gonna start competing soon
If you are disciplined and you fight every weekend you will probably always walk 1-2kg above your fighting weight. If you are fighting rarely, you can walk 3-4kg's above, and eat less a few weeks before a fight. But there are exceptions, it all depends on your diet, training, and your body capability to lose weight. I could take 5 kilos in a week with 5km morning run in addition to boxing training in the evening because I sweat like hell and I lose a lot of water. That is also not good because I also lose muscles, so I just become light and skinny. I also had situations on weigh-in before a fight where other fighters ask me how much I cut and laugh when I say 1-2kg, as they cut like 5+ kgs. So, its all experience and listening to your body. For the first fights, I would definitely suggest you walk near your fighting weight, to prevent bad performance due to being hungry/dehydrated, so you can focus on your boxing more.
