I won money betting on Franco, I saw a lot of good pro's picking Franco just had a feeling Maloney is not as good as his brother. He showed a lot of heart and wasn't embarrassed by Franco he should learn from this.
I had a commitment yesterday afternoon so was only able to watch the first six rounds. I had it three apiece at that point but the signs were ominous b/c the other guy, who was a bit off the pace early (first round & a half), was coming on & looked to be full of confidence at the half-way point. When I got home I checked the result but haven't watched the last six rounds yet. A couple of thoughts I do have are that Little Leprechaun hadn't fought since mid-November last year whereas the other guy had a decent hit-out earlier this year (albeit, only a couple of months later). In a close, tough fight, it's perhaps not surprising that the other guy was able to stay the distance a little better. The other thought I had is that is that LL weighed-in three quarters of a pound under the weight limit. The other guy was slightly over but made the weight by further de-robing. It's only a small thing but at those lower weights, you don't want to be giving away anything more than a quarter of a pound or so. Ideally, you don't want to be giving away anything. Those were two concerns I had pre-fight. Bottom line? It sounds like the better man on the night won but there will be other nights for Andrew Moloney.

Michael Zerafa is the best professional fighting out of Victoria. I think it's good that he will be headlining against a high profile opponent in the Mecca of Australian boxing. If he wins, he should definitely be in the frame for a rubber match with Horndog or a fight with Junior Tszyu next up. I think Anthony Mundine has earned the right to go out on his own terms. He obviously thinks he still has a good performance left in him so let's see. If he doesn't & Zerafa lays him out, so be it. I think it will sell. Victorians will enjoy the prospect of seeing one of their own beat up a big mouth former rugby league star. Whether that actually happens or not, we'll have to wait & see. Junior Tszyu up there in Brisbane working out with Dundee Kim is interesting. Presumably he will be doing some sparring with Joel Camilleri while he's up there. I think both Joel & the Kiwi, Bowyn Morgan, would be good sparring partners for Junior Tszyu in preparation for Horndog. Bowyn Morgan is a guy I would like to have seen Junior Tszyu fighting before progressing to Horndog. Horndog himself will be using Cameron Hammond for sparring who I think will be fighting Bowyn Morgan next. Great win by Jason Moloney yesterday, btw. He done wang-danged that Mexican burrito. Wang-danged him good. A world title shot next please.
New best fighters in Australian boxing list. No bias or prejudice. Just how I see it. 1. Jason Moloney 21-1 (18) Big Leprechaun went to America & wang-danged a Mexican burrito. 2. Andrew Moloney 21-1 (14) Little Leprechaun has the skills but is perhaps not quite as physically robust as twin brother. 3. Justis Huni 0-0 (0) In a year where not much has happened inside the ring, this bloke has qualified for the Olympics & turned pro. 4. Jeffrey Horndog 20-2-1 (13) Are there any Horndog fans in the House? Or are they all hiding under their beds up there in Queensland? 5. Michael Zerafa 27-4 (16) Looking forward to seeing him continue to build his domestic profile by crossing swords with The Man Mundine. 6. George Kambosos Jr 18-0 (10) I'm not quite as high on George as some, but he'll get his chance to shine soon enough. 7. Jai Opetaia 19-0 (15) I think we'll see him moved pretty quickly from here. A couple more wins then world-title-ville awaits. 8. Junior Tszyu 15-0 (11) They're taking the Horndog fight a bit too soon I reckon. But he looks a winner so we'll see. 9. Liam Wilson 6-0(4) Has all the skills but does he have the physical toughness? When you get to the pointy end of the sport, you need both. 10. Cesar Mateo Tapia 12-0 (7) Really like what I've seen from this young bloke so far. Would like to see him take a mop & bucket to the local Super Middleweight ranks. Plenty of decent names there for him to fight. 11. Daniel Lewis 6-1 (4) We saw how tough it is to win fights in the US when the best fighter from our class of 2016 lost to a fellow prospect over there. 12. Liam Paro 19-0 (12) The quiet achiever of Australian boxing. Will be good to see him get his moment in the spotlight when he lands a world title shot.

Always enjoyed reading Grantlee's stuff. I started with his Jeff Fenech biography of many years ago, followed his coverage in The Daily Telegraph when he worked for them (which included Fenech's & Jeff Harding's careers) & more recently his coverage in The Courier Mail which included Horndog's career (including another book). I can even remember a cameo appearance from him on a local boxing discussion forum which lasted until his true identity was revealed. That was pretty funny, I must say. I'm sure he'll continue to be an interested observer of the sport & we'll get to hear his comments from time to time. Well done, Grantlee. 40 years of flying the flag for Australian boxing is a great effort.
* Legendary cut man Stitch Duran ( worked for Fury vs Wilder 2 ) has paid a high compliment nicknaming Jason Maloney the Mexican Aussie. * Aust boxing needs more sponsor 's like Steven Scanlan. This content is protected This content is protected
Our man, @MidniteProwler is a closet Grantlee Kieza fan. He queued up for a copy of The Hornet. Not sure if his copy is signed by either Horndog or Grantlee.
* Albion Park Sam Goodman was in line for IBF Youth Title May but now hoping to return on Horn vs Tszyu undercard . That scar JWP is going to have looks nasty. Can't believe he wants to keep fighting. Well actually I totally believe it.
