Ward's go to tactic is to get inside and roughhouse because he has short arms and likes to get inside his opponent's power, plus he's a very physically strong fighter. That was able to work for him because he was stronger than all his opponents except for Froch who could match his strength, but did not have the skill to capitalize. Beterbiev is far, far, far stronger than Ward or Froch. He's much more skilled than Froch. And he generates power with short little 6 inch punches. I said this years ago that Beterbiev would have stopped Ward. Back when the whole IBF just threw their hands up in the air and said we give up, let everybody just duck Beterbiev.

I will say only that it's sad that Ward decided to retire so early in his career, but there was a reason for that.He's smart, good decision for him, his health and his legacy.
Ward would have been tossed all over the ring. He would have been plowed by Beterbiev for 12 rounds or less, until Ward gave in to the power. Ward might be ahead on the cards until Beterbiev comes from behind and bangs him. A finishing shot from Beterbiev would be satisfying to see.
We might struggle I carn't really recall any fights where Beterbiev has needed to fight on the inside, he is just a pure beast. On the other hand I could name probably 20 fights where Ward used dick punches and headbutts the main 2 being against Kovolev.
