"From what we've seen tonight I don't think it would make any difference if Evander Holyfield weighed 190 pounds, the same thing would be happening" said Larry Merchant while doing commentary on the Holyfield/Foreman fight. Holyfield was actually 208 pounds in their bout. Could Holyfield still have beaten old Foreman at 190 pounds?

Repeat result of their 1991 encounter, Holyfield winning the same way.

Perhaps he could have out moved old George to the same outcome. In fact it’s the probable scenario. But I don’t think it would be a forgone conclusion. Evander Holyfield was a hell of a lot stronger and bigger in that heavyweight body than he was at cruiser. George might not have respected his punches at 190 and wouldn’t have as much trouble wrestling him in the clinches nor pushing him back into mid range. Evanders first fight with Qawi saw him hospitalized.

Defintely. Holyfield at 190 lbs had much better mobility and handspeed. Also, without the extra bulk giving him a false since of security Holyfield most likely would’ve fought smarter against Foreman and maybe even been able to force the stoppage.

Holyfield made the fight way more competitive than it needed to be by standing directly in front of Foreman and trading, which is asking for trouble even against an old Foreman.

How long was he hospitalized for and what were his injuries?

So he could not stop Foreman weighing 209 but he would do it weighing 190? Stupidest comment ever. Bravo

He'd probably be a bit more mobile, but also have a harder time to hold George off of him and a harder time taking his punches. Don't know if he'd be able to hold on. Foreman at that stage was slow but almost supernaturally strong. Holy even at 190 was never as fast as a young Ali, at times he would have to take George head on for moments. Those extra 18 lbs of muscle sure came in handy then.

Of course CW Holy must have been more than 190 in the ring. 195 perhap.s

Holyfield probably gets a points win but he’d have to box him and forget about mixing it up with him.

George hurt him numerous times when they fought and Evander still thinks he was the physically most powerful man he fought (he stated he was the only man he fought that he couldn’t budge in a clinch). Take away 18lbs of muscle and Holyfield is at an even bigger strength disadvantage.

Like I said he could still win because Cruiser Holyfield was as elite as it gets but he’d have to be very, very, very careful.

Yes, I do. I don't think a change in weight really makes a difference. Both guys would put the same effort in to it and put up an entertaining match. No kds or anything dramatic or otherwise, just Holyfield thumping out a decision and Foreman happy to be on his feet at the end.

Without the bulk he'll struggle more with absorbing the power of Foreman's shots.

I don't think that would make a big enough difference to be honest.

Depends how he fought, he would most certainly win if he boxed and moved, also 190 pounds was considered heavyweight at one point in time
