How many boxers could go 12 rounds with Anthony Joshua twice and not get knocked out? How many can say they have even done that once when they turned up in the best shape possible? Whether AJ ran in the second fight or Not, one could mount the argument it's actually impressive to barely train at all and be able to turn up and go 12 rounds with AJ. Parker, Povetkin, Wlad and Whyte all trained there asses off to go 12 rounds with AJ and didn't do much better. I'm actually not convinced anyone could go 24 rounds with AJ and not get knocked out except for Fury at the moment. Maybe Parker if they fought again.
Most fighters at that level would have went the distance with AJ fighting the way he did. He didn't put much on his punches and used movement all night. Andy Ruiz is a disgrace to the sport that was good to him. He deserves all the ridicule and then some.
He didn’t go twelve rounds twice. First fight was seven. Training has little to do with this. Andy Ruiz jr has a thick neck and great chin. To state it’s impressive to barely train at all for your first defense of multiple championships is border line top of the spectrum autistic. I feel sorry for anyone who believes it’s impressive to do nothing when a once in a lifetime chance comes along. No one is being hard on Ruiz cause he lost. They are hard on him because he disrespected the sport, himself and his team not to mention his fans. They are hard on him because he had an opportunity most people would sell their soul for and blew it to self doubt that he could do it again, and self loathing trying to destroy himself with food. “To see a man beaten not by a better opponent but by himself is a tragedy.” -Cus D’Amato
Nope.. Buster Douglas faced similar backlash after defeating Tyson and coming in out of shape against Holyfield in his next fight.. The only difference is that YouTube and social media now exist that documents people’s statements.. Tyson Fury also received heavy criticism after beating Wlad, backing out of the rematch, and going on a food and coke binge for 2 1/2 years. Fat boy just need to stay out the kitchen and bounce back..
If he didn't train for the second fight, then he deserves criticism for not giving the HW title the respect it deserves. If he did train and used lack of training as an excuse, that's slightly better, but he still deserves criticism for not giving Joshua his dues.
Yea, so he came in too a fight fatter than usual, I doubt he’ll beat Joshua again but if he starts training hard I think he can become a good contender
You really can’t say he didn’t give it the respect it deserves though because it’s happened on multiple occasions in the HW division. -Buster Douglass beat Tyson for the Undisputed HW championship, enjoyed the success a little too much and was out of shape in his next fight against Holyfield. Result: L KO2 -Tyson Fury beat Wlad, enjoyed the success too much and just quit boxing all together. -Riddick Bowe beat Holyfield for the Undisputed HW Championship, enjoyed the success too much and came into the rematch out of shape. Result: L UD -Lennox Lewis has been Undisputed HW champ and made a couple of defenses, tried to train for Rahman whole filiming a movie and was not properly prepared for the fight. Result: L TKO -Andy Ruiz defeated AJ for the Unified HW championship, enjoyed success too much and was out of shape in the rematch. Result: L UD
Not to mention David Pooa who came on fat and out of shape for his title SHOT with Lennox Lewis and was shut out in even worse fashion than Ruiz.
I know its harsh, but fans are rightfully frustrated because the guy cant decide if he wants to be an athlete or couch potato. I know hea fighting genetics and risks a lot going into the ring, but being on a world stage puts you in the public eye and opens up the door to scrutiny and his lack of dedication makes him a target.
No definitely not too hard on the fat waster. He won the Unified HW championship from the golden goose got his meal ticket an literally used it eating everything in Mexico. He is a fat slob that turned up to his first defence in absolutely appaling shape and didn't even seem bothered to even try to win was just happy to get paid. Let's see how he does in his comeback and what sort of shape he is in. But for me he deserves all the ridicule he gets.
Bigger disgrace is Joshua for losing to that out of shape blob. I watched the second fight back, and there were loads of 10 - 10 rounds. With the bodybuilder failed to engage, and Ruiz just slowly following him around the ring doing nothing.
Bias or ignorance I can’t tell which one it is. Probably both. Look mate AJ had a similar punch output to Fury when he fought Wlad and landed 21 more punches as well for that matter but I bet you’ll say that was a masterclass schooling. AJ won convincingly like 11-1 or 10-2. Wasn’t even close.
