I rewatched this fight last night. Klompton2 inspired the rewatch from a debate we were having the other day. I'd seen it twice before but wanted to verify my arguments. I forgot what a great fight this was. I remember enjoying it the first time I watched it. It is one of my favorite underrated fights of all time.

You know that this fight happened because the proposed Floyd Patterson vs Ernie Terrell fight fell through, Floyd opted to fight Ali on Nov 22 1965, he had no interest in fighting Ernie.

For klompton, if he is here, I went to the trouble to score the fight, just to add some authenticity to my claim of watching it last night:

Round 1-Terrell dominated the round w/ the jab, as well as some good flurries to the body. Chuvalo hit Terrell with a few good hooks in the final minute, but Terrell definitely won that round.
Round 2-Chuvalo landed many more good shots in this round, but Terrell still won this round, which was close.
Round 3-Terrell dominates with the jab
Round 4-Chuvalo got in several good hooks throughout this round, yet Terrell still won this very close round.
Round 5-This was Chuvalo's best round so far. Chuvalo jabbed more than previously and got in some good flurries near the end of the round. Even round.
Round 6-Terrell's jab once again the deciding factor, but Chuvalo succeeded in hurting Terrell badly near the end of the round. Another even round.
Round 7-Terrell won this round handily.
Round 8-Chuvalo warned for headbutts, and Terrell for thumbing, which it appears he does in this round. Warnings aside, I gave Chuvalo this round.
Round 9-Close round goes to Terrell.
Round 10-Another close round for Terrell.
Round 11-Terrell clearly won this round; Chuvalo missed a lot with wild hooks.
    Round 12-Terrell.
Round 13-Neither man was very active in this round, so I called it even.
    Round 14-Even.
Round 15-Terrell backpedaled in this round, which I gave to Chuvalo.

That makes it 9 rounds for Terrell, 2 for Chuvalo, and 4 even. The fight was more one-sided in terms of rounds. Chuvalo didn't win as many rounds as I thought, but I thought most of the rounds were close points-wise, which is what I thought before. My opinion has changed after watching it again. I do think that it wasn't close enough to have gone to Chuvalo, but it was a close fight. I don't care for how boxrec makes it sound like Terrell retained the title via a robbery.

Ya, I've often heard that there was talk of this bout in the '65 period, but also that Terrell didn't like Patterson and wouldn't defend to him. I think Terrell would have dominated Patterson, until probably the final third of the fight, which Patterson would dominate with body punching and superior stamina.

I'd rather say he was interested in fighting the real champion. No point fighting for a worthless strap when he could become a lineal three time champion.

Yes, but Floyd chose to face the actual best and actual champion instead. Makes pretty good sense.

yes, it does make sense. I don't see Floyd doing better either way with the back injury. Terrell would have beat him just as bad.

Afterall, even though Terrell was not as aggressive as Ali, he hit harder.

    He was horrible?

If you think that, it explains the previous nonsense from you. Bye.

No! I left the room a minute, and someone typed it on here as a joke. I clicked a different button and it automatically saved it.

Maybe we can now agree that Chuvalos claim that he was robbed in this fight by some mysterious Mafia involvment is downright stupid.
