Not really much size difference peak for peak in all honesty.. Who would win? This will be interesting..
Marciano by murder. Dude could throw a hundred punches in the fifteenth round of a fight. I don't care how fast Roy is, and I don't care how many PEDS he does. He's not slipping them all. It is just a matter of styles making fights. Over in the classic, we had a Marciano-Toney thread, and I am on record saying that would be an awesome fight. But Roy is going to get hit, and there is no way Roy's chin is going to stand up to a guy who knocked Joe Louis out the ring, broke the bones in LaStarza's arm, knocked all the upper teeth out of Rex Layne's head, starched Walcott with one punch, etc.
RJJ on points. None of which would land on RJJ. Yes he is. Marciano is too slow and flat footed to catch Roy. You are right, Roy's chin won't stand up, but that's only if he gets hit, which he won't. And although Marciano hit very hard for his size, they also used gloves with less padding back then, so they cause more damage. In a modern fight, they wouldn't allow Marciano to wear such gloves. This is one of the easiest fantasy fights to predict: Roy will simply out land Marciano all night long and win it on points.
Not if he took twice the PEDS and was caught with sixteen times the level of ordinary testosterone. The gloves may be a bit bigger, but things have changed since Jones' time too--better PEDS testing.
It would be two possible outcomes... Roy wins by cutting his face up badly Or Rocky breaks Roy with relentless pressure, body shots, arm shots, and most likely hip shots to slow him down... I’m a huge fan of both guys and as much as I love Roy, I can’t see him being able to avoid Rocky for 15 rounds, he’s going to eventually get to him. And if he was able to slow Roy down then Roy’s a goner because his mobility and speed would be his biggest assets in that match up.
Roy would have to make sure he never got hit flush once because if he did that glass jaw would shatter into a million pieces. Marciano was a clever fighter too, could find a way to land.
So hard to say. All our memories of prime Roy was of him absolutely roided to the gills. Marciano of course didn't have that and was still a monster. What does a natural Roy look like? We'll never know. Gotta go Marciano.
I can see Roy’s handspeed, timing, and footwork giving Marciano problems for couple of rounds, but once Marciano connects on the body and takes away Roy’s mobility Roy would take a beating, since Marciano would be on Roy like a second skin.
Actually, my very good friend... "He's a good fighter. Better than most people realize. He's strong and young and hard to hit." JOE LOUIS "Rocky was a very deceiving guy. He was not easy to hit." JOE LOUIS "In defense. It was harder to get at him ... Rocky fools you. He doesn't take as much punishment as it seems. He looks easy to hit inside but he isn't." ROLAND LASTARZA "He ain't as easy to hit as they say. Rocky rolls under punches and he weaves under punches ... He protects his belly by blocking with his elbows. CHARLIE GOLDMAN "Rocky was a very deceiving guy. He was not easy to hit." ANGELO DUNDEE "He fools you. When you look at him from outside the ring he seems easy to hit ... But if you're in the ring with him you find this isn't the case ... His head is bobbing and he's crouched low, so low in fact that you can't get a clear shot at him." KNEENE SIMMONS "Marciano is a good puncher and he's hard to hit. He has a funny style." KNEENE SIMMONS
Imagine Rocky on Roid's roids? Now there's a scary thought. Not that he'd need to them to shatter that disgustingly feeble old lady glass mandible though.
Come on now.. Marciano gave us some of the most beautifully timed & perfectly placed shots in HW history.. & I have a hard time believing a guy who reigned as HW champion for years (in the 15 round era) putting together a 49-0 (43 KOs) record over just 8 years isn't 'clever'.. that's an incredibly silly statement to make coming from quite a knowledgable (usually) poster such as yourself..
