Max Baer had a chin as good as McCall as Well as being a harder puncher.

You're just picking McCall because he's "modern".

No, I have nothing against old fighters. I usually prefer older fighters. I honestly just think McCall is too tough and too powerful, and I think Sharkey is a little ordinary.

McCall was hot and cold, but so were most of them. Can't see him losing to Galento, but the others would all depend on which versions of each turned up.

He did have a good chin and I agree he was more powerful. But McCall is powerful and tough too, so to me it's all about who is more focused and who wants to win more. McCall is a much more motivated fighter and more focused. That's why I think he beats Baer. I think Baer could tag McCall here and there with good shots, but tended to let it all out too early (Louis, Nova), or wait a long time (Schmeling, Braddock). McCall is not suffering a knockout defeat at any stage in the fight.

I dont really know how many of his fights were on the level so I dont buy into anything about the man except his guts. He had guts

Well he did hold the world heavyweight title at a time when only 1 champion reigned.

His KO of Sharkey was legit IMO. He was also the only champ between Tunney and Louis to make a successful title defence.

Wasnt he also mobbed up to the gills at a time when boxing corruption was pretty common? It's not unheard of to believe the mob had one of the guys they controlled hold the belt just long enough to make a killing

That uppercut looked real to me. And a 260 pound man putting his back into an upper cut landing on the chin of a 198 pound man, it's not so far fetched that the 198 pound man goes down.

Sharkey maintained to the end of his life that it wasn't a fix.

I have never thought it was a fix either. It was a thunderous uppercut. Anybody would of folded under that punch.
