I can see a case for Laguna in the top 3 but surely Panama Al Brown is number two? One things for sure, Panama’s top 5 is strong.

I’ve been on a Buchanan binge the last few days. I am an unabashed Kenny nutthugger. Thanks @George Crowcroft for giving me the idea to binge Laguna for the next few days.

Abso-mutha****in'-lutely. After Duran, it's a shark tank. I don't think there's a wrong order between Laguna, Brown, Marcel and Pedroza.

I think I lean towards Brown, Laguna, Pedroza, Marcel as the order. I think Marcel was perhaps better than Pedroza but Pedroza’ a career a little more impressive but yeah, it’s hard to separate them.

I’d like to see a thread on Buchanan too. He had a lot of fights that were pleasing on the eye and a great style.

Great fighter to watch - his style was like a constant feinting spring, recoiling and exploding in tandem. High IQ and a speed beast, but wasn't really the same without that speed either.

Nice way to describe him. Just finished the Saldivar fight at George's recommendation and the first thing that came to mind when I saw him there was that he reminded me a bit of Kid Chocolate.

BTW, I had the Saldivar bout a draw, though I was a bit distracted while watching it in parts.

I stand corrected. He was tough and definitely had skills. It wasn't just speed.

This guy was inspiration for Duran and Marcel. That is it. I really think he is second panamian atg fighter to Duran. Would like to see second fight with Ortiz, fights with Locche and Hernandez... Ehh

Hilario Zapata belongs with those guys he was a master boxer with a tremendous defense who could have been more if he wasnt such a crazy mu****a still a Hall of famer and on his night one of the best defensive fighters ever i would probably have him in the top 5 of panamanian fighters.

I love Zapata, but I don't think he accomplished as much as those guys. Although he is certainly elite at 108 and 112. His first fight with Chang is awesome.

You could argue he accomplished as much as Marcel. Lacked that kind of consistency, though. I'd put him just behind those guys.

I wouldn't. His win over Chang should be a loss IMO, and after that his résumé is pretty thin. Torres, Olivo and Penalosa are good wins, but only as good as Marcel's over Spider or Serrano IMO. Marcel also has the Gomez fights and should also have a win over Shibata IMO. Plus, he has Arguello, which is the real icing on the cake.

I think Marcel is a top 10 FW, and truly awesome H2H. Can't see Zapata being above him TBH.
