I'm assuming he's training a bit more intensely, knowing he's going to get a fight. He just doesn't know who it is yet, and so can't start a full-blown camp. For example, he probably started training for Kovalev well before the Yarde fight, but Kovalev needed a rest before going back into camp.

I don't really think it's a valid criticism of Canelo. It's not his fault he's a bit more professional than the guys he's offering fights too.

BJS doesn’t want the fight. 8 weeks should be plenty of time for a guy that’s not coming of a fight. He has earned millions and should have enough for a decent home gym. Work out and stay in shape. It’s not like he has anything else to do during the lockdown.

Definitely. He is doing what many champs at the top have done in the past, dictate the terms. Tyson, SRL, Klitschko, Mayweather etc. End of the day it's a business decision, the real world. Mike Tyson openly admitted he deliberately cancelled/delayed fights to his benefit. He would wait until his opponent trained their **** off, delayed the fight so they would be past peak come the contest. In that time frame he would start training. Klit brothers dictated all the terms in Germany. Floyd announced fights while he was in training already. When you call the shots, naturally, you give yourself an advantage.

BJS of all people shouldn't be in a position to argue.

I have certainly been a critic of Clenelo for a long time but you're post is 100% correct.

He's also a heavyweight. It definitely helps to not worry about making weight

This. Opportunities don’t come along everyday and especially in a competitive sport like boxing, so I think it’s insane when guys blow opportunities by not staying near their weight limit throughout the year.

An active fighter should never be more than 3 lbs over their weight limit, since when the phone rings nobody wants to hear excuses.

Saunders knew he was in line for a Canelo fight, but he decided to spend his time drinking, eating and snorting his way through lockdown.

You have a point. But the general idea is that Canelo always tries to screw over and gain an unfair competitive advantage over his opponent.

That is a fair point, I guess. BJS seems to blow up like a balloon in between camps and he's only got himself to blame for it. He should have known that given the possibility of a Canelo fight, that he should have kept himself in shape.

    But.

But the flipside is that Canelo's guys know that he's like a walrus between fights and they still tried to pull the same stunt they pulled on Kovalev.

There are no heroes in this little story.

Looks like maybe the only guy left is Derevyanchenko, and tbf, I'd rather watch Sergiy vs Canelo than BJS vs Canelo anyway.

Pakkuman how much time is needed. 7/8 weeks is enough time to train for this type of fight. We are at the beginning of July so more tHan enough time for Billy Jane Saunders to prepare for a September fight with Canelo. My strong suspicion Is that she does not fancy it for what would be a lesser payday than pre COVID-19. If she was confident she would take the fight beat Clenelo and make a whole load of cash in the rematch. If she was a he I would say grow a pair.

Billy Joe “I’ll fight any man any time anywhere, it’s not about the money.”

Also Billy Joe “I’m not taking a pay cut, 9 weeks isn’t a long enough camp. Ooooo I need much more time as I haven’t been training.”

    Proper fighting man lol.

Canelo has definitely become a politician now. He’s doing what guys like Oscar, Floyd and PAC have done which is be the A side and make the demands. Oscar with his gloves, ring size, and purse splits,....Floyd with his weights, gloves, venues and splits, and PAC with the catch weights.
