    Extremely popular.

Everyone woman in the country knew his name. He would be on Good Morning America and network television programs on the Monday mornings after his fights for interviews - unheard of today.

Americans of Mexican heritage were obsessed with him. He was far bigger with them then Clenelo ever was or will be. You have to remember that the vast majority of the Americans of Mexican heritage speak 0.0% Spanish and connecting with Oscar was therefore so much easier.

He fought absolutely everyone. There was never a bum fight like you see today constantly. Everyone knew he won the Trinidad and Mosley fights so he was highly regarded. I mean the guy was 31 before he actually lost his first fight vs. Hopkins (a weight he should have never been at, but again he fought everyone). Fought Floyd at 34 and was winning the fight through the 8th round. There's a reason he sold so well - never was out of a fight.

He wasn't Tyson level big...but he wasn't too far off. Mayweather sold more PPV's but he never reached DLH's star power. Vastly more Americans knew Oscar DLH at his peak than knew Mayweather or Pac.

He was everything he is bending over backwards to mold Canelo into, as far as crossover popularity.

The numbers don’t lie Floyd sold more PPV’s and had more star power. Name another boxer or sportsman to earn over a Billion US Dollars without endorsements. Floyd is and was a bigger star. Everyone knows Floyd all over the world.

True the # shows Floyd success rose after fighting DLH.
IMO Floyd was the GOAT at marketing himself- real congenial to set up fights not just with Mexicans but on Cinco De Mayo, not Black History month.

And everywhere Floyd went- his foes had the crowd- think DLH, Canelo and the dude overseas Hatton brought more fans.

Wherever Oscar was, his fans made the majority of those who showed, whereas with Floyd few times ever did he have the majority.

I remember people walking out during his Baldomir fight. And his Judah fight, he had to drop his cut from 6 mil to 5. 374,000 pay-per-view buys, $16.8 million in television revenue..proved he was only as popular as the opponent he faced.

DLH took every fight when it came, Trinidad, Quartey, Whitaker...never -ever remember Oscar saying things like if it don't make $ it don't make sense.

Oscar chased glory and the money followed.
Floyd chased $ hoping glory would follow.:afro:

Floyd goes all over the world and doesn't get recognised.

The same cannot be said about Tyson & Oscar.

Oscar was NEVER at any point "Tyson level" popular.

Mike at his peak was the most famous ATHLETE on Earth in any sport, not just boxing. DLH never came close to that. To put into perspective, in 88 Tyson was more famous than Jordan.

Oscar was the most famous guy in boxing NOT NAMED Tyson at his peak.

He was famous enough that Floyd only became a mainstream star after beating him.

No one knows Oscar nor does he go all over the world like Tyson and Floyd to make appearances. The only place Oscar is known is where other degenerates congregate.

If you weren't just some 17yo punk pretending to be some expert who thinks name dropping give him extra cred, you'd realize how much more popular world wide Oscar and tyson were over Floyd.

Mike was up there with Hulk Hogan and Jesus, for sure. Possibly Skeletor, too.

It’s because he took the big fights and had the good looks, but without the former the latter wouldn’t of mattered nearly as much
