Can’t be overrated if he dethroned the long time HW king Wlad Klitschko and longtime WBC title holder in Deontay Wilder.. He need to make a defense but he’s obviously a HW great.. Merely beating those guys is one feat but being able to remain on top proves if he’s legendary or a flash in the pan..
Ask that great man absolute legend Mayweather jr he will tell you straight TYSON FURY is a certified nightmare ha ha ha nobody can beat prime Fury which we have yet to see in my opinion watch him in the next 2 years he will do wilder again n Joshua twice easy it astounding to behold he’s a phenom
Fury is very good. He beat a very overrated Wilder ( twice in my opinion ) & a very good Wladimir, who was not at his peak. There are not a lot of challenges out there at the moment for TF, Joshua obviously ( that’s why they will probably fight twice, who knows, maybe a third time ), Whyte ( who I don’t rate ), possibly Usyk. The division is weak at the moment. There are younger guys on the horizon, Hrgovic, Dubois etc, but they will not be ready or experienced enough to face a focused Fury. At the moment it’s difficult to say if he is overrated or not ( l probably would lean towards overrated if you put a gun to my head ). It will be easier to say after his next 3 fights, in my opinion.
Definitely overrated when looking at his accomplishments so far and all the hype he's getting. He beat one of the worst versions of Wlad in a total stinker, then weaseled his way out of a rematch and got banned for doping violations which happened before the first fight. Beat the clearly protected Wilder twice (yes, it's hard to score the first fight a draw, despite the 2 KD's). but hasn't made a single defense as of to date, and certainly hasn't faced any other big names in the division yet, with one probably being a much better opponent as Wilder and even the version of Wlad he faced. Besides all the hype, he basically is 2-0-1, 1KO in titlefights, which should be 3-0, 1KO but the best one with a clear * as he got busted for nandrolone 8 months earlier, but was kept quiet. Still, he is the #1 now because Joshua unexpectedly lost and regained his belts to Ruiz. If he can stay clean, beat the clear #2 and former #1 in the division, then defend his title a couple of times against various good level opposition, then we can start comparing him to other past big names of the divsion. There was a time they did it for Joshua... then he lost and they started to do it for Ruiz Jr... then for Wilder and now for Fury. Makes you wonder who's next a year from now?!
In the current era of HW boxing then the answer is definitely no, but comparing him to some of the greats of all time then that's a different story.
I think he’s currently overrated following the Wilder fight and any talk of ATG is ridiculous for a man whose never defended his title. He’s 2-0-1 (1 KO) at world level. If he beats Joshua, Usyk and poor old patient mandatory Dillian Whyte then he’s without doubt the best of his era. If he stays around to also beat the likes of Dubois, Hrgovic, Hunter and perhaps a rejuvenated Ruiz then he’s ATG top ten.
For me, he is overrated. He is the number 1 in the division and his wins vs Wlad and 2x Wilder (yes, he won the first fight clearly) are standout wins. I just want to see him clean out the division and fight more top fighters
If Fury had fought any of those fighters instead of Wilder he'd be branded as a coward ducker. We'd have articles about how Fury got lucky with Wilder and chose easier opponents instead of honouring his contract with Wilder and giving the fans the best match-up. When was he going to fight them before the comeback? Instead of the eliminators leading to the Wlad fight? Or during the KFC eating contest AWOL period? Maybe as comeback fights before the first Wilder fight? You can't criticise a fighter for not taking on opponents that were never options practically speaking. And Whyte and Ruiz were nothing until recently. Fury may look old but he's only around 30. A lot of the fights he's criticised for were when he was very young and nobody applies the same standards to other fighters. Look at these other fighters who fought poor opposition until around 30 or more. Fury fought Wlad at 26 years old. Even Povetkin still 'wasn't ready' to fight Wlad until into his 30s.
I for one agree with the Wilder rematch. Fury beat Wilder clearly in the first fight but the Wilderettes were going on about how Wilder had been robbed of a KO win (GTFOH) when he was actually up at 9. Wilder needed his beating and he got it.
Fury has actively sought our and beat two of the three great rivals of his era, so it is natural that people want to see him get the third. All of that being said, some people are acting as if he has already done it. Conversely, others won't give him the credit he deserves. So it balances out. No, the boxing world is just showing props to a great fighter.
