Yeah I think that style Steward developed with him was designed solely for the purpose of preventing defeat but not necessarily going out and “taking” the win if that makes any sense.

A better description, would be that it was designed to make a loss impossible, rather than a win inevitable.

He was never winning by fine margins.

I think Primo gets a terrible rep on this site. Wasn’t the best nor in my top 50 but he’s right there in the 50-60 range. Which is pretty damn good. He was def better then Brewster
That being said I don’t think he beats Wlad at his best

Carnera is one of the names that we often see mentioned, in threads about the worst lineal heavyweight champions.

He is not in the argument, and not even close to it, and neither is Marvin Hart by the way!

He might even be pushing his way into the middle of the pack!

This explains his rather poor performance against Fury. Age was only part of the problem, he had gotten so comfortable being a cautious fighter enjoying a reach/technical advantage that he didn't know how to take initiative and dig deep or "figure things out" when plan A didn't work.

It's not so much about Primo, Wlad was a serious proposition, 6-6., strong , agile, great boxing IQ, great fear factor/survival instinct, serious power, hated his style, great boxer.

I think this is the first time I've ever heard a boxer credited with "great fear factor." It's almost like a woman saying "Oo, girl, your new man has a great head of baldness. The skin is so wavy."

    Spot on.

Wlad/Steward developed a singular strategy, which nurtured a very narrow band of necessity, relative to Wlad's opposition.

When Fury came along, Wlad looked like a guy struggling to remember. Then again, he'd had more or less 10 years to dig himself into a stylistic rut.

bert is more myth than the stories he weaved about his favourite 'back in the day' fighters.

Young wladimir klitschko was on destroyer mode and the out of shape aging mediocre Sanders destroyed him with no mercy.
