The only question here is Hopkins vs Toney for #2

Either guy can win and both have lost to lesser guys than their opponent, I can see a scenario where Hopkins uses his feet and rushes in with his head and clinches Toney and eeks out a decision, or I can see Toney winning quite comfortably on points.
Both at their best, Toney was better though.

Of course everyone has vulnerabilities, styles make fights.

Weighing in at 160 right before the fight? Roy could only manage that when he still was a JMW, so it would have to be a pretty green version. But I'd still put my money on him tbh.

I mean, if stopping Sosa is showing vulnerability what is LaMotta losing to many guys that weren't anywhere to being close to Jones's level showing us?

Yep, but I've never heard such troubles being proven by stopping someone in the second round before. Without being in trouble oneself.

LaMotta could be outboxed on the back foot, everyone knows that. So could many greats.

I just don't see Jones standing up to the pressure of LaMotta.

    Not over 12 rounds.

I've already said this to you, it's the way he sat against the ropes.

A higher level pressure fighter, if he can get Jones against the ropes like, causes him real issues imo.

I kinda feel like we're going round in circles as a few posts ago I almost wrote the exact same post.

Much, much, much, much lesser fighters did. Actually who is the best fighter Jake stopped without an injury being involved? Dautheille, whom he tricked after being outboxed for almost the full 15?

How is that an EDUCATED guess?

A guy of 5’8 who had a 67” reach, and who was easy to hit?

Against a prime version of Roy who’d have weighed-in as a SMW-LHW on fight night?

    Come on now.

I love Jake, but we’ve seen the footage of the Robbo fights etc.

He had the heart, but he’d never have caught up with Roy.

Roy would have beaten him up.

He hurt Sosa several times from the ropes during less than two rounds without being hurt himself. If we find some vulnerability there were'e saying that everyone who's ever been hit by someone who's not a top fighter would lose to a top fighter of a similar style. I e everyone would lose.

No he weighs in at 160 fight night. LaMotta reigning champ has to defend his belt against Jones.

What is your ratio of successfully picking fight results in real life?

Yes, but that's not the same as saying that you would lose to a fighter with similar style to someone you dispatched quickly but took a few punches from when doing so.

With that reasoning you can say that anyone would lose to a fighter of choice. Because every fighter has taken punches from a fighter with a similar style to better fighters. So in the end everyone would beat everyone. Two fighters would beat each other when facing off. It just doesn't make any sense.

For my money, no fighter of a similar size watching the Sosa fight would feel more confident of being successful with such tactics than they did before watching it.

But I don't think I can make this point any more than I already have, so I'll stop here.

Fact is there's not much else you can do against a swarmer who attacks like that from the get go. You can either run, go to war, or take the route Jones did. You can't do it much more impressively than that, either.

I have previously said we're going round in circles.

As I said, every fighter has vulnerabilities, styles make fights.
