I don’t know if there is a break clause, but Dubois signed a 5 year contract with Warren. Liam Smith and Saunders have gone nowhere since they left Frank. Warrington went just before the virus, so it remains to be seen what’s going to happen with him. Fighters come and go depending on who has what to offer- in the event of Warren getting back on Sky (which personally I think is extremely unlikely) he will be an attractive option to sign for.
Let’s be honest though, most go than come with Frank be it with Sky or not. Good competition is good though and once the AJ bubble bursts if it hasn’t already, then I guess they aren’t a million miles apart.
imo warrens stable is underated has alot of good fighters, the problem is warren is not good at promoting his fighters, is it because he doesn't have sky sports news to help promote his guys
Sky sports news is a massive factor for getting a fighters name out there but sky sports are more committed to boxing than BT sports as well. Sky is just a bigger force all round for boxing and whilst BT do have their moments, sky is no1 boxing channel in getting the fighters recognised by the public.
Smith signed with Matchroom in January 2019 and Saunders in August so given the lockdown it's not likely either were going to have done that much since. Smith beat Eggington on a decent card then last fought on the Jacobs Chavez undercard; Saunders seemed all set for Canelo before the lockdown. It's also not really a case of who does what with either fighter, but just looking at the way the tide is flowing. Smith and Saunders may very well have signed with Hearn because they've heard he's good to work for, pays you on time, gets you good deals and so on. Frank ended up in court and lost against Calzaghe, did the same with Burns, also went to court with Hatton, and in fairly recent history not just those three but Khan, Brook, Cleverly, Bellew, Groves, Mitchell, DeGale and Warrington all signed with Warren and ended up leaving him. I don't know why people would look at Warren, with far more fighters leaving him than going to him, plus all the course cases, and think he's the guy you'd want promoting you.
Hearn is as slimey it gets, but he's an honest man when it matters the most (paying up, keeping his word). Combine that with him being VERY in-tune with the modern crowd and what they want, and there's only one place to go to really. The other one is getting the scraps now.
I agree with a lot you are saying but remember it’s not just about stables it’s about how it affects sky. I know it’s not simple, but Hearn signed Saunders and instead of going for the obvious fight which was Saunders - Smith unification or a solid fight on sky - instead he sticks Billy on the youtubers ppv undercard (basically because he didn’t want to get stuck with the bill for a boring fight, so he invoiced the you tubers instead) and Canelo was going to be on DAZN UK anyway and not sky. Smith v Eggington is not a good fight and sticking him on the DAZN 4am cards does not benefit Sky as Adam Smith has openly noted /expressed his unhappiness with his comments about Sky getting a lot of dog muck on prime time. In the BT era and even late Boxnation, I don’t recall any fighters taking Frank to court of there being any money issues, so digging up the Burns and Calzaghe stuff is pretty ridiculous and not relevant.
The deal with Channel 5 is exclusive so unless Sky were to pay him silly money he’d be better off where he is. Mick doesn’t have a massive stable of fighters so once a month may be too much. More cooperation between promoters would be welcome- especially now Mick has Isaac Chamberlain.
None of which really addresses the biggest issue; in the last ten to fifteen years fighters have largely been moving away from Frank Warren. For whatever reason that may be, whether it's rumours about Frank's inability to pay up, the legacy of lost court cases, the bigger money that comes with being on Sky rather than BT, it's been a constant and predictable theme. You can come up with a list of fighters who largely make up top level British boxing over the last fifteen years and see where Warren has been involved. Fell out with Calzaghe and Hatton and both took him to court. Joshua never signed with him and neither did Haye or Froch. Fury's biggest win was under Hennessy, and he's now with Arum. Frank basically holds his UK TV rights. The list of world champions Britain has produced over the last decade or so is pretty close to being a list of fighters who have never signed with Warren or chose to leave him.
Dullian Shyte v Pedvetkin on Sky Box Office for the Lineal Pudding Strap says it all about Eh Day Earn - a world class salesman selling a stale turd as a big juicy steak.
Does Warren not have a contract with BT? Is it just a rolling deal. Matchroom could leave Sky. When is their deal up? End of 2021. Honestly I don't think anyone can say what the landscape will even look like in 2021. Until fans are allowed back into venues every promoter is going to be feeling the pinch.
The biggest scam was Pudding Whyte Vs Dull Boy Pakora Rematch on PPV. I've rewatched the fight and am convinced it's staged. Both throwing pity slaps for 11 rounds then Del takes a dive, paid for by ppv loot
If Hearn was on “Matchroom Nation” and not Sky then those fighters wouldn’t have left Frank... Hearn is a great promoter, but the common denominator for his success is the Sky machine and then AJ coming along. In the BT era, they are roughly about level in terms of fighters coming and going. Warrington was with Eddie, contract ran out and he got a better deal with Frank. Frank delivered, his his contract ran out and he went back... Its also not correct that Sky auto means more money. Fury, Frampton both choose Frank as he offered the better package than Eddie. Maybe Eddie didn’t realise that Dubois had something about him, but Frank did and also offered him the better package. I remember Eddie confirming that he spoke to his team and advised them to go to Frank, as he wouldn’t be prepared to match his offer.
