Oh yeah, that one. I can't believe it didn't come to my mind. Great call, Bronze Tiger!

No, I saw it on closed circut ( thats what is was called in the early/ mid 70s ) at the cinema , Sterling was boxing like a dream, he was a very underrated boxer, but you sort of new that Bouttier would catch him up at some stage, which indeed he did.

Not sure if you are aware ? Bunny gave Maurice Hope a severe beating when Hope decided to step up a weight.

Yea your right, won a ton of money on that fight, Kaylor was hard to subdue at that stage in his career.

The beating Franklin ( Saad) was taking from Marvin Johnson in the 2nd fight and Yaqui Lopez in the 8th rd are both remarkable. To come back from them is incredible

Sterling was seriously avoided in his day. Kevin Finnegan wanted no part of him. Neither did Alan Minter. They were Britain's Middleweight big guns at the time.

For sure. you seem to know the British fight scene quite well, are you English ? if you are you will also remember Bunny beating a certain Phil Matthews, a big powerful middle who was cutting a swath through the middle weights at the time, his most noticeable win being a stoppage of Tom " the bomb " Bethea who had almost put a end to Mark Rowes career with 2 bruising fights, poor Mark was giving a lot of weight away to very big and strong Bethea, and due to his courage and unworldly will to win took a bad beating, have spoke to Rowe, many years ago, and he said, took him six weeks !! to recover fully.

Yes Mike. I started following Boxing in the early 70's so would like to think I know a bit about it, thanks.
I can't say I remember Phil Matthews other than by name but I remember Mark Rowe, a real East End ticket seller with a bit of an Alf Garnett attitude. He was the one big British name who was willing to fight Bunny and it was the Boxing lesson Mark got that put a lot of other rising British Middles off fighting Sterling.
I remember Tom Bethea, not really from his regular visits here in the very early 70's but he was still fighting big names in the States and in Europe right towards the end of the decade.

Chacon vs Limon I think it was 3 or 4 when Chacon was battered and behind on points and dropped Limon I think twice in the last rd to sqeak out a dec.
Chacon vs Edwards # 2 after a sound thrashing in their 1st fight, and a war in the 2nd, somehow Chacon pulled it out. Won by dec after being cut up and dropped by Edwards.
And Obvious one Leonard vs Hearns 1, Leonard well behind on the cards and blind in one eye from swelling from possibly the best jab in welterweight history. Pulls it out, out gutted Hearns. Won in 14th ko.

I'm not. Hope is on my list of guys to research and watch, and I've read a little on Sterling. I usually don't like to read about guys who were in lots of exciting fights just to find out there's no easily available footage of them.
